Anyone have a copy of the DSLR (or otherwise) list of HighSplit locations and phasing? Bonus if it also has the status's of each.

Smith6612 They still have ODN and Spectrum guide boxes in WNY? My high split market has QAM video from 261MHz to 441MHz and DOCSIS from 465MHz to 941MHz.

Looks like there is a gap from 261-279MHz and 357-429MHz set aside for QAM video in your area.

Motorola870 The cable boxes I see in use in this market are Motorola DCX3200-M, Cisco/Technicolor 4742HDC, Spectrum 101, and Spectrum 201. IIRC I have also seen Cisco 4640s on the rare occasion deployed. A few years ago I still saw Scientific Atlanta 3200s at a business, plugged in and powered on, but I know that hardware has since been retired.

The first two boxes I see a lot inside of businesses. The rest I’ve only seen in residential. Scientific Atlanta I’ve seen in both, but those mostly vanished under TWC.

I don’t know of many people using Xumo. A lot do use the Spectrum TV app, so they’re at least making the transition to IP in this area on the Residential side. Not so much on the business side, though…

Buffalo is a 750Mhz market. They are hopefully increasing that with the system rebuilds they are doing. As well as fixing the tilt my headend seems to have beyond 650Mhz in a ton of areas.

Smith6612 I still use a customer owned modem. There is tilt out at 940MHz the spectrum analyzer shows a 9 dBmV tilt starting at 662MHz. I think there is damaged hardline in the area they have tried to band aid in the past had a drop amplifier at one time that just masked the problem. They replaced a section of hardline last year that did fix a problem where I went from something like -6dBmV at 471MHz to -13dBmV at 674MHz now the 32 SC channels are about flat but the OFDM tilts.

The good news is from what I have seen posted with the photos from WNY it looks like it is going to be 1.8GHz eventually. With the replacements the system rating is increasing. They probably won’t go beyond 750MHz until after the entire WNY region is upgraded.

smccloud On older DOCSIS 3.0 modems it is at http://192.168.100.1/. The Spectrum branded modems don’t run a Web UI anymore.

Jaybonaut I see it saying Video unavailable and to watch it on Youtube, The technetix amps seem reliable. All of legacy Charter and portions of legacy TWC areas in North Texas depending on the hub use them. Dimensions wise they are larger length wise than CCOR and Motorola line extenders but less depth.

I saw eight Spectrum trucks working this morning. They just finished up on what looks to be an amp.

The node for this street hasn’t been touched yet. I’m on the same node, so work for my street is coming very soon I take it.

Motorola870 That’s the exact same node they installed in my neighborhood here in the Albany area. And as far as I can tell one of the first of it’s kind around this area. Most of our nodes are the optimax 4000 series. It makes sense we are seeing 1.8ghz Spectrum is planning on expanding the frequency range eventually for 10 gig down in the future over coax. They want to future proof the system as much as possible. Our plant is still 750mhz but clearly will change at some point. I wonder if this 1.8 GHz stuff is the standard gear concerning nodes and amps they are going to use for all markets going forward? Seems like it

Vive_Dylan There likely will be multiple vendors for the remaining systems being upgraded. They have mentioned certifying AOI and ATX for 1.8GHz deployments. They had multiple vendors in 1.2GHz upgrade areas.

They likely won’t add more past 750MHz until they rollout 2 / 5 / 10Gbps tiers. Likely will see OFDM blocks past 750MHz.

Lot of these new Vecima nodes popping up now. I see Spectrum working nearly every night here on the various nodes and amps and other stuff in my area. I always go out around 11pm (when upgrade window starts) just to see lol. That new Vecima node is so much larger than the old ones too which makes it easy to spot. It’s huge ! And the new amps are obvious as well. It’s good to see Spectrum is future proofing the system as much as possible with such high end gear. I could only imagine the cost of this project just for my area for all those new nodes, amps etc to get to 1.8ghz. But that cost is justified because from what I read they won’t need to replace these nodes ever again as they support full modularity to switch out for future upgrades along with remote R-PHY among other things.

We also won’t really be needing more than 10 gig down for some time. Right now 1.8 GHz, docsis 4 is a major upgrade over existing systems and this node supports future upgrades to fiber to the home eventually from what I saw. That is quite good going out 15-20 year plus. Even now 1 gig up and down is still more than what most average people need. But still more speed is always nice for us power users and businesses too.

Not much activity on my node. Still haven’t seen any outages except for the half hour outage from over a week ago.

With that said, there has been actual plant work being done, at least in terms of Fiber. In the last few days I’ve noticed new coils of Fiber up on the poles down the street from my node. Just this evening I spotted more Fiber coils, this time at my node itself. I have no idea why Spectrum is pulling more Fiber out this way, unless it is for tapping into the existing Fiber that is already at my node and running new Fiber to new nodes. Densifying and removing the number of amplifiers is a welcome change.

The Fiber is tied up and lashed to Spectrum’s Coax, so I’m positive it is them.

Smith6612 new fiber is likely to prepare the new nodes for the eventual 25×25gig backhaul and for cases when they deploy fiber to the premises out of the GAP nodes.

I spotted more Fiber coils outside of another neighborhood that my node serves. They seem to be bringing a node deep into the neighborhood. The same neighborhood has Verizon Fios present for half of the homes (Verizon never finished building…) so perhaps Spectrum is splitting that neighborhood onto it’s own node. Maybe my neighborhood will wind up the same. It’s Fiber-less, but there’s enough houses and development going on in the area to possibly warrant such a change.

I was talking with @penberth today, and they found some General Instrument housings up on the poles in our headend. Looks like we have some pretty ancient gear in some parts of the system. I’m sure TWC or Adelphia has upgraded/replaced the components inside since GI went defunct in 1997… but just an interesting find to see.

Once my node has been replaced (nothing done yet, I assume the Fiber work they are doing is a precursor to a major split + install), I’d be curious to see how much tilt, if any, we have on our plant. Most of the nodes in my headend have a good 9dB tilt, which is prominent once you get past 650Mhz. Some areas are bad enough to have around 12dB.

Smith6612 GI split in 1997. NextLevel was the division that took on the HFC gear portion and renamed themselves back to GI in 1998. The housings have been in use up until now under the GI/Motorola/Arris branding for the last 25+ years. Commscope has redesigned the lids for OEM mini bridgers and line extenders that are 1.8GHz.

They seem to be using AOI drop in modules and replacing the lids in WNY. Seems to be an easy route without having to splice in housings.
