Anyone have a copy of the DSLR (or otherwise) list of HighSplit locations and phasing? Bonus if it also has the status's of each.

smccloud we actually had two headends in North Texas move from Cisco/ATX gear to Technetix.

I honestly would have kept them as is to have to do less work cutting in new actives.
For some reason CCOR style amps were replaced in phase 1.

The Fort Worth Texas legacy Charter areas had everything cutout and replaced.

Headend count and location has little to do with “cutting in new actives”. It just changes where the fiber from the node is run to, and with DAA that can be much further away. Lots of little hubs and headends will be going away as DAA expands.

“Cutting in new actives” has more to do with vendor/feature support and consolidation of field gear models for easier logistics.

Only those who have not been part of large organizations with physical equipment think that logistics is not one of the most important part of those organizations (the old adage is an army marches on it’s stomach, and in fact one of largest part of the Army is their logistics divisions (without food and bullets you don’t have a fighting force)). Sparing and tooling is so much easier and cheaper when one can standardize (and don’t forget training on different items). I really doubt most line techs enjoy having to have ten sets of pads for each different active in the plant.

I can 100% assure you that you won’t get symmetrical 1 day sooner because you come here daily to complain. You’ll get it when you get it. Until then enjoy what you have. Why waste time and energy getting upset over it?

Earlier in the thread they were concerned about taking PTO due to charter being down for maintenance, and they’ve also said they wanted more upload speed. My suggestion was not to drop charter but rather use it as failover (backup) or load balance / sd-wan (combine) them to get more upload. They seemed frustrated so I was just offering solutions incase they did not know they had options

Not_Sure Can you honestly say you aren’t worried about tariffs pushing the completion date back at all? I’m already seeing it affecting some tech orders for work a bit, not much, mind you, but enough to be concerning. If nothing else, the complete uncertainty around them is enough to concern me.

MacLeech Because I have to be able to explain it to the powers that be at work when it affects us. As for the speed tier, yes, I’m on the gigabit speed tier, as much as I wish I didn’t have to be.

Nope. If its delayed it’s delayed. It’ll be here when it gets here whether I worry about it or not

Best you’ll get for notification is maybe a door tag maybe up to a week before they’re working in the area, maybe an email a day before they start, otherwise it’ll just start going out one day. Then it may be unstable for a few days. That’s for the field work. It’s residential service so you’re not going to get much, if any, real notice.

1) How did you survive your entire life without the high upload speed?

2) Hi-split symmetrical is fairly new which started being offered only in the last couple of years. If the high upload speed never existed, what would you have done?

Personally, if it’s affecting your job to the point that you’re losing clients/work, I would look at anything and everything to get that bump in speed. Business tear, cell phone provider, satellite, or even build your own internet and invest thousands if it will pay off by way of more work or clients. Check all of your available providers in your area. Even a small bump like 10mbps or more would help, no?

DjKilla When I worked in the office, it wasn’t an issue, and when I remember to download stuff in the data center now, it’s not an issue. The problem is, I don’t always remember to download stuff in the data center, and sometimes download it at home and have to transfer it to the data center. As for finding something with a better upload, the only option I have is one business-class WISP, and they will not get back to me because I live in a residential area in an HOA (I have reached out to them multiple times). FTTH is half a block away from me, but that provider refuses to expand to me because Windstream services me (they initially gave me a $20,000 quote for installation, then retracted it). A local small FTTH ISP is expanding my way, but has no ETA on when they will get to me. The final FTTH ISP that services my township has flat out said they will not service anything in town that is covered by Spectrum, as they do not want to overbuild another service provider’s area. So right now, I have to wait for high-split to roll out, move (which, being a single-income family with two kid,s isn’t in the cards right now), or hopefully stop forgetting to download Cisco/Avaya/MS software for work in the data center where we have a Lumen symmetrical gigabit fiber connection.

So you’re desperate for symmetrical speeds because you don’t notice you’re not using an RDP session….. the speeds aren’t an obvious giveaway? It’s not quicker to just start an RDP session and restart the download direct to the data center?

If these files take a while to download, it probably takes just as long or longer to upload to the data center. Save time and make sure to use the RDP browser. You need to theme one of the browsers orange or something noticeable so you can tell the difference easier. Maybe make them open to a home page that displays your IP and provider, like https://www.showmyip.com/ You could do that now instead of wondering when symmetric speeds are coming to make up for your mistakes.

MacLeech Once I’ve finished downloading a full UCCE release stack over 2 hours, I don’t want to do it again. It’s a royal pain to go through 20 pages on the Cisco download site to do so. Or to realize that, crap, I just downloaded this one CUCM ISO and now I have to do it again.

MacLeech why are you so defensive of a huge corporation and so rude to a user? You’re being rude to someone for wanting a modern day service.

Its like being able to see the highway to get somewhere in 20 mins but your isp gives you a scooter that can only go on a dirt road next to the highway, but yet you’re charged for the highway and still have to spend 6 hours getting there.

My cell phone bill stays the same yet my service continually gets better. My isp nickel and dimes me every chance they get and still never improves my service, that’s an issue.

It’s 2025, they should have a modern connection to be able to do their job, that’s that, but they are forced into a monopolistic system that is designed to screw us over.
