Using my phone, I can go from 200 to 700mbps on my 600 plan, just walking around my house. At the very least you need to pay attention to the PHY link rate for your Wi-Fi device which can often change (depending on what the phone is touching, what obstacles are between the phone and AP, other devices putting out RF, how far away from the AP the phone it, etc., etc.) because overall that limits your throughput between the device and AP it’s connected to.
