Maintenance every other week, nothing changes...?

Been getting these maintenance messages every other week for what feels like almost a year now. Internet never goes out, and the “maintenance” is done almost instantly (the message goes away within 5 minutes). Still on low split. Nothing ever changes, same speeds, same channel SNR/Power/Frequencies. Should I be hopeful for FDX? or What’s going on here?

computerman2 I had one for 09/09/2025 too (12:05 AM), and now another one is showing for 09/11/2025 01:00 AM.

I got another scheduled for 9/10/2025 @ 1am eastern. Whatever there doing guess will find out fully at some point

I have had three over the past couple of weeks. Two of them were nothing and the one last night featured a XB8 reboot. If the planned outage is not listed as being during the daytime hours, there’s no need to get excited about it.

Moffetts Node cutovers can sometimes be scheduled to occur during overnight hours, but will still typically use the wording of “We’ll be working to enhance the Xfinity network in your area on XX/X/XXXX 12:00 AM (Your local time zone). You’ll experience service outages during this time. We anticipate completing our work within the day. We apologize for any Inconvenience and appreciate your patience”.

Normal maintenance is “Planned maintenance in your area is scheduled to start on XX/XX/XXXX XX:XX AM (Your local time zone). You may experience interruptions to all of your Xfinity services during this time. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience.”

Also when i restarted Gateway eariler, it took a bit to show back online, and all devices as connected

Xfinity assistant was like looks like your Gateway is back online, but i do see another issue, and suggested to schedule a tech, but i’m like everything seems to be working fine to my eyes, what the heck could the issue be lol.

Should i schedule the tech soon as we have time to wait for a tech to arrive, but i have no idea what he’d be even fixing lol

hex0101 It’s conceivable, but don’t hold your breath for anything substantial happening overnight.

We get these 1-2 times a week. During the maintenance window, they seem to be large in scope, which suggests maintenance to the vCMTS or some other network component like an aggregation switch in the headend. I’ve yet to notice an outage from them.

whfsdude There’s redundant components, but they may just be reporting the maintenance as worst case, like if failover didn’t happen as designed.

whfsdude It could just be work/audit in a fiber splice case that contains the fiber leading to your node or hub. It’s a CYA notification if something gets broken during the work.

It’s just weird when its all random times and not always 1 AM local, my overnight maintenance has always been 1 AM local time. I had a maintenance scheduled today at 1 AM local but as of yesterday it was scrapped.

59:30- Cool to see, someone at the NOC was likely on the phone, or possibly talking with the guy in the truck? Verifying that all of the modems are coming back online. I am going to assume NOC.

Splice on the PI- Guy had the cable hugging the back of the node. Why not use a 90 connector to give the cable some space? Next guy that has to go up there and work on the node is going to be mad lol.

hex0101 thanks for figuring that out! I was just pasting the link and in the draft it resolved but as soon as I hit post it was like access denied embedding a video, and it didn’t even give a link to open in YouTube like you get with some forums and video combinations that disallow embedding.

I thought it was interesting, but I would have liked to see inside the node or known more about the fiber portion, the switch config on the other end and the provisioning process (maybe the guy in the truck did that part).

I guess another team did all of that fiber splicing and connecting that part inside the RPD with proper SFP+ wavelength.

I pulled out a Comcast Ciena Metro-e switch to send back this week and it had a channel 29 (1554.13nm ) DWDM 120km optic in it.

I hope whatever upgrade they’re doing serves you well, but why would they be doing it during the day? Wouldn’t work like that be better done during overnight hours?

some field work along RoW may have access issues/restriction due to flagging lighting, or permit requirements. even some headend work is done during daytime , normal working hours for engineering and upper level technical staff. also share access locations may restrict PLANNED work hours vs emergent repairs and adjustments

Hmmm.. Modem lost sync, Metro-E down too. More than just my local HFC node for sure…
