since ive been reporting xb8 and i can no longer contribute to it, may as well start a XB10 firmware thread.

hex0101 The 1st generation of CommScope’s FDX amp is listed as 1.2 GHz, but that was before Unified DOCSIS.

fmd I dont know what they are using now. In some areas with X-Class its just Arris OM6000 nodes. (N+0) What frequency they go up to is anyone’s guess. You’d have to crack one open to see what’s inside it.

fmd These 1.2 Ghz amps and FDX gateways (and the 1.8 Ghz ones as well) can only use the FDX in the 108-684 Mhz spectrum bands anyways correct?

hex0101 Yes, the full duplex band (the shared upstream/downstream band) stops at 684 MHz in both versions. Unified only extends how much downstream you can have after the full duplex band.

fmd Ah dang. Looks like DOCSIS is still going to be upstream limited. As an example, 10 years down the road, are things going to be 25 Gbps download and 5 up? Is DOCSIS 4.1/ 5.0, going to make FDX across the 1.8/3 Ghz band a reality?

hex0101 maybe but do you need that much upload? A lot of servers and cloud sites are already throttling.

hex0101 I heard some talk a few years ago about trying to get the upstream to 1 GHz. We’ll see what they can manage to do.

got my first update 1 day and 16 hours ago

maybe… this one might have upstream dual queue
i dont notice the latency spikes when maxing upload now.

hex0101 this particular speed test server doesnt max out the download, but it does a very good job with the upload

According to jl, they haven’t fixed the bugs yet. So I dont know what’s causing this to be better than before, maybe its a 2 part fix or something.

My modem just rebooted and new software.
Moca settings still exist, ram usage now reports MB usage
and again like before i have no idea if dual queue exists because the speed test and latency looks similar from before.

videomatic3 Rebooted at 7 am or around 2-4 am?

XB10 (at least the Sercomm model) has a total of 2.3GB RAM, compared to the XB8’s 1GB of RAM.

hex0101 4am. so basically a lot of the times when i wake up in the morning, at 355 the internet goes out then i freak out

Whatever this update did, it’s terrible. And I hope none of you have to suffer through this.

@videomatic3 28 minutes of disconnections. I’ll take off 12 for the firmware update and restart. But still.

Have you noticed any inpacts in normal day to day use?

XB6/XB7/XB8/XB10 seem to share a similar code base, hopefully this issue doesn’t trickle down.

Business Customers are given the option to set the firmware update time in the Admin panel:

I take it the default 2:00-4:00 am default is probably what the residential firmware uses, with the option to change it hidden away/not available.

Could probably optimize the firmware upgrade process to minimize downtime if this hasn’t been done already, download the update, write it to a secondary partition, migrate over any needed settings, then reboot. Only downtime would be during the reboot.

Customer owned modems will get their firmware updates whenever the CMTS decides to push them out. I have a feeling XB gateway’s update the firmware on their own (are connected to their own update server backend), without traditional CMTS involvement like customer owned modems have to.

Well so far this software has been consistently a dud.
