If only that were true. I knew two good people who were alcoholics.
One finally realized his condition and participated in a difficult recovery. He was sober the rest of his life. He had been so bad that even mouthwash with alcohol would send him into relapse.
The other just went downhill, losing his job, his home and family relationships. Ironically, the people who supported him owned a bar, paid his bills in return for sweeping and cleaning the bar, but made sure that he didn’t get any booze from the place, and customers cooperated. (he still managed to get wine somehow). He was a nice guy, but so helpless in the face of his alcoholism.
There are people who get drunk, and there are alcoholics. The saddest are drunks who are alcoholics but refuse to admit it. They say “I can quit anytime I want”, but when faced with problems, don’t.
