Actually it was the Republican Party that won the Civil War and ended slavery and welcomed Blacks with open arms, but something happened somewhere along the way to change that among some of them, but in fact, virtually all your big time racists were Democrats– see here–people like George Wallace, Strom Thurmond, John Stennis, Theodore Bilbo, Jesse Helms, etc. Huey Long’s legacy is more debatable. There are racists in all the country’s political parties–some practice it as a matter of course and are to be condemned for that and others look at each individual’s content of character. We need more of the latter and none of the former. BTW, the OP that started this unsavory and marginally allowable debate was not intended to do so and was only a clarification of something in the Declaration of Independence which unfortunately was responded to in an inappropriate manner and should therefore be ended here lest this thread be locked.
