The fireworks haven’t even started and I got a rather fun surprise. Not. I was mowing my lawn and got zapped by a ground wasp nest. I’m guessing the recent rain forced them to relocate. I’ll take care of them later.
What works for me is to wait until dark with full protective clothing. Mix about a half-bottle of dish detergent into a bucket of water. Wait until night. The wasps will be sleeping in the nest. Then, cover the entrances with screen mesh and pour the mixture into the holes. They’ll get pissed off and try to escape, but are held in by the screen mesh.
Wasps are insects and breathe through their skeleton. The soapy film clogs the air holes and they die quickly. It’s a humane way to kill an insect. Also, the dish detergent is not toxic to the environment.
