can't upload images

As the title says. 99 times out of 100, whenever I try to make a post and add an picture, photo, image, whatever you want to call it? Whether it’s just one or ten, the site just rejects it and gives me a red box with no context, no error explanation. No rhyme nor reason. I can’t even share a screenshot without it basically refusing to let me post or share it. It’s exhausting, it’s frustrating, and it’s like I can’t even share what it looks like, because the issue prevents me from even doing that.

ChromeJob HardlyWorthit Terminal commands for macOS screenshots:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg
defaults write com.apple.screencapture type png
defaults write com.apple.screencapture disable-shadow -bool true

then
“killall SystemUIServer”

As always, be very precise and careful using Terminal, particularly if you have sudo permissions.

You could add:
defaults write com.apple.screencapture type pdf
defaults write com.apple.screencapture type tiff
and maybe:
defaults write com.apple.screencapture type gif

What I’ve been seeing here lately is images upload fine without any error messages but they simply don’t appear or they appear for a few seconds in posts and then vanish. What’s up with that?

I wasn’t aware that .TIFF or .GIF was supported. But … .TIFF would be HUGE (is that what you want?) and .GIF would be indexed color, not JPEG. Again, what you want?

Astyanax Haven’t noticed that. Do you have an ad blocker extension active?

To clarify:
.png, .jpg, .pdf, .tiff are supported
.gif is a maybe

HardlyWorthit .GIF worked. But again, I would consider some of these inferior formats for most purposes. We’re not writing docs here, just helping someone out. 🤷

Same problem here, it just stopped working. Same camera, image formats, etc.

dslwanter What are the disk sizes of the images you’re uploading?

The forum has a 5MB image size limit.

Different images will compress to different sizes depending on how complicated the images are, with the same camera, image formats, etc.

Did anybody try viewing the properties of of the red x? Maybe it’s a jpg or some other image type and it might be named in a way that indicates the error that it indicates.

You could also talk to the developers of the forum software. They would obviously know what the red x is for.
