What happened to 140esr?
Yesterday 140.0esr was available on downloads page, today only 128.11.1esr. Pulled?
Release Notes are still up though.

Something tells me that was a mistake by Thunderbird folks. There’s no 140.0 on release channel yet (only beta 140.0b3), so 140.0esr makes no sense.

Betterbird builds for both already available here. When ready Thunderbird v128.12.0esr should be here and v140.0esr here.

Link and internal updater to v128.12.0esr working but not the link to v140.0esr. But after updating internally to v128.12.0 it wanted me to update also internally v140.0esr. I did not.

Even though it is an ESR, I would like to know if there is a good link to tell what advantages 140 would have right now, and how long 128esr will be supported. Unlike a browser, I’m much more wary about mail updates.

Link to v140.0esr now working as well as of course internal updater. Regarding your concern over v140.0esr I generally follow Betterbird’s advice which currently is:

Note that we’re just starting to gain experience with the new 140 series, so please do not use this version in production yet.

After updating to 128.12.0, I checked for updates again … got this screenshot. If I click on the link, it takes me to download 139.0.2

I got the same. Downloaded the update and ran installer, now on 139.0.2.

As I said, earlier checking for internal updates after getting the internal to v128.12.0 it gave me the option to go to v140.0.esr but now it gives no option and just says up to date. Again, I never went to v140.0 and won’t until Betterbird recommends it.

Its internal updater gave me v128.12.0esr in my updated, 64-bit W10 Pro.

Earlier in the day I updated to 128.12.0esr and then right after it offered 140.0esr but I did not proceed at that time. Now, it offers no update. So, I’ll just leave it as it for now. On 64-bit Win 10 Pro as well.

Haven’t seen anything in 140.0esr that would make me downgrade back to 128. That’s with 14 accounts (about half IMAP and half POP, (all IMAP IDLE), about 120,000 emails, about 300 folders, sub-folders and search folders, and about 200 filters.
In fact, feels much snappier. Like selecting with CTRL+A on large folders is immediate, on 128 it took about 2 seconds (all accounts set to maildir). Moving stuff around is much faster too. My userChrome.css still works as in 128. Sorting Folders works great too.
