egeezer It’s amazing how technology has advanced in detection. An oncologist’s recommendation is important. We lost a good friend to the illness who decided the radiologist’s recommendation to forgo treatment was better than the doctor’s. Our hopes for good news!
I fully agree. In this case, it was found while looking for something else. My cardiologist sent me for a calcium score so we could get a baseline. A calcium score is a CT scan of the heart and surrounding lung area. In addition to getting a numeric result, i.e. the “score”, the radiologist added “I see a small lung nodule” (not in those words).
The cardiologist took it from there. The scheduled CT scan is for the full chest so they can see everything that’s important.
If you know any radiologists, thank them for doing a great job to spot this type of stuff.
I know of at least one person where there was a “surprise” finding - you look for one thing, but find something else. Unfortunately, it was too late to do anything about it.
