They support the US and the west in general, but they’re even more averse to partisan politics than the mods on this board (hard to believe).

Curb your glee folks. As much as we might want to see Russia punished it’s still important to remember that they still have nuclear weapons. When you back an animal into a corner he might lash out. I would like to see a diplomatic ending and not end up a glowing rock.

We have to get to Putin before that time. And we have to hope the military refuses Putin’s nuke order. Putin made us enemies, had an uncorrupt Russia Federation prevailed, we might have been allies. China is Russia’s real threat, and Putin knows this. If he nukes us and we nuke them, China will move into Russia and declare victory.

That’s just my opinion. Putin know that if we WERE going to attack, we’d have done it by now.

If Russia nukes us and we retaliate in kind (we will) the world as we know it would be over.
If NATO gets involved (they probably will) the northern hemisphere would be mostly uninhabitable.
There’d probably be Australians and some South Americans who would survive. So there’s the bright side.

…after the NSC got wind of it and wet their pants worrying about Putin “pushing the button” over it? Maybe. Not telling us gives us that deniability but even that’s a little rich considering how deep we’ve already been in with Ukraine.

These events demonstrate the diminishing usefulness of expensive and obsolete concepts of things like mutual assured destruction and the proposed “golden dome”. Asymmetric warfare, cyber attacks, biological attacks and small scale easily deployable offensive weapons are effective and much cheaper. Unlike nuclear weapons, they leave the target real estate more suitable for occupation and reconstruction by the winner.

We should not rely on an assumption that Putin is rational. Instead of flaming provocation we should be ratcheting down and emphasizing negotiation and tougher sanctions. No need to do things that might trigger WW3.

This is incorrect. Russia, China and North Korea are all allied in various ways. North Korea is deploying weapons and manpower to Russia. China is providing economic avenues to work around western financial sanctions. They are allies.

Delonar I follow China expose sites. China is most certainly a major threat to Russia. Xi is a friend of convenience.

Anyone with common sense knows that Russia is horribly weakened, and were the US to attack and invade a weakened Russia, it would have happened. Putin is KGB/FSB. You can bet he knows. He doesn’t gamble except with other people’s money and lives.
