Does my Xfinity 1 gbps plan qualify for the XB10?

I keep reading that Comcast is rolling this modem out to DOCSIS 4.0 areas (I have no idea if I’m in one). If I were in such an area, would my Xfinity 1 gig plan qualify me for this modem, or is it for 2 gig and above only?

I tried asking Gemini and Copilot and they kept throwing up conflicting answers.

OmegaWolf747 Historically during initial rollout of new services when supplies are constrained, only customers who REQUIRE the new equipment to receive their level of service will get it. You’ll need X-class services of X-500, X-Gig, X-2Gig to get a XB10.

If you don’t get notifications from Comcast that you have the X-Class option (email, flyers, advertisements) you probably are not. The deployments are rather limited, so statistically you probably aren’t either. A reasonably easy way to tell would be to go to the Comcast website and see if you can upgrade to an X-Class service level. And, before you ask, no, there is no way to know when your location might see X-Class availability.

MacLeech I definitely don’t require it per se. My XB7 works pretty well, most of the time.

OmegaWolf747 why not just drop by an Xfinity store and swap out that XB7 for an XB8? No cost, and the XB8 appears to be significantly better across the board.

Andyross Correct, and according to Comcast, that is a known issue at present, with hopefully a fix, one of these days. Yes, annoying, to say the least. But that doesn’t make the XB7 on par with the XB8 regarding performance, nor does it have the added benefit of WiFi 6E (6GHz). The issue with the Admin portal (10.0.0.1) properly displaying the bonded upstream and downstream channels, while annoying as heck to power users, doesn’t impact actual performance of the XB8. Unless I’m missing something, of course.

Andyross My XB7-T is not displaying them properly either. Same bug as XB8. I’m not surprised, same RDK firmware base across the board.

Test-User I had both XB7 and XB8 and I could not tell any difference other than the solid metal base on the XB8. Both performed the same for my devices.

I think the funniest dang thing about the XB8 was how us early adopters got them through the rewards portal. Then found out they were piles of crap and would reboot after a matter of days due to mem limitations.

Someone called up Technicolor and spoke to an engineer and he basically said “Yeah, it’s bad…trying to work around it.”

Tried to Be early adopter of XB8 back in 2022 lol, but kept receiving XB7 Gateways, stayed with Arris XB7 Gateway til it caused problems in my Game late 2023 and early 2024.

There was (at least one) firmware version which had an atrocious memory leak. Depending on your specific usage, it could run out of memory within about a day. How it could have passed QA is unknown (but I do hope they added such testing into the CI testing pipeline). Reportedly fixed some years ago (although those impacted will probably never fully forget nor fully forgive).

My guess at the time was that it was the same firmware the XB7 used but needed more memory for buffers for the 6Ghz radio. They must have figured it out eventually.

The XB8-T was formerly known as Technicolor vs the newer XB8-M now known as Vantiva-Marlin. Comcast started getting the newer XB8-M’s last year. I’m just wondering if there is any hardware or firmware differences inside the newer XB8-M? Or did they just use the same hardware and firmware inside the XB8, and just slap there name on it?
