If you wonder why Medicare is running out of money my mom is still getting mail (postal mail) solicitations for Medicare Advantage plans and she died July 1st, 2024 which is nearly a year ago.
I can’t believe I’ve been living alone for almost a year because she went into the hospital at the beginning of June and then went into rehab and then back into the hospital with stroke symptoms and then they found that the cancer was terminal and it was best to move her to hospice. She was moved to hospice on a Tuesday and passed the following Monday.
And my mom told me years ago that HALF of all the Medicare dollars are spent in the last year of life. My mom added to that with cancer treatment and my grandmother added to that with futile care because my aunt refused to let go. And my aunt’s treatment of grandma made the decision to move my mom to hospice an easier decision. I did not want mom to suffer like grandma.
