px_eliezer_ Well IMHO the biggest problem with Reddit is they seem to attract moderators that would put Chinese censors to shame. I have had so many things I have posted there just disappear with no explanation given, and for no discernible reason (the post was on topic, not confrontational in any way, not trolling or anything like that and yet a moderator just decided he didn't like it, or didn't want whatever information I had posted to be shared, or something - who knows?). I think far fewer people would use Reddit if they actually knew how many posts are zapped into oblivion by overzealous moderators. The Google Voice sub is a great example, the moderator there is someone who (I believe) got kicked off of DSLR several years ago, and if you say anything that he thinks Google might even slightly disapprove of, your post is gone (often within minutes; I think the guy must have some kind of alerts set to notify him the second someone posts anything). And he's not the only one, many of Reddit's subs are moderated that way.
Worse yet is they have some mechanism where after you post something it will remain visible to you, but no one else will ever see it. So maybe you ask a question and you get crickets and can't understand why, it's because no one but the moderator ever saw you post. So one of those things is probably what happened to your post, and it's really frustrating when it happens. And yet Reddit seems to escape criticism (much more than some other only forums) and I have never really understood why, does no one ever put 2 and 2 together and realize that if this is happening to their posts it must be happening to many others? Makes me wonder how often I have asked a question there and never received a good response because someone (maybe multiple someones) tried to respond but their posts got removed for some reason. So I have pretty much avoided Reddit the last few years.
