Edge keeps trying to update

After today’s update Edge keeps trying to update and never finishes. Just keeps on spinning that it’s checking. I tried a repair to no avail.

Add Edge updater to scheduled tasks, set it to run daily and forget the GUI

bighorn1 There’s no need to do that. Tasks are already present and set up to do this automatically by default. As mentioned, functionality is not affected. Updates come through automatically without any user intervention. This is simply some kind of spinning wheel bug. No big deal.

takeahike FYI: It appears as if it’s now fixed with the latest version as I’m no longer getting the never ending spinning wheel when checking for updates. Can anyone else confirm once updated to Version 137.0.3296.83 that this issue no longer occurs for you guys?

Yes, up to v137.0.3296.83 with no spinning wheel. Whadda ya know? And after all, what’s two and a half weeks, considering that the Universe has been around for 13.8 billion years!

Updated to Version 137.0.3296.93 without any problem or spinning wheel.

Updated again to Version 138.0.3351.55 (Official build) (64-bit) without any problem or spinning wheel. I suppose that this one is fixed, so this will be my last post on it. I hope that they can now move on to this issue for their next big project. 😂😂

More woes with Edge updates. This has happened for at least the last two updates, if not more. First it starts to update and counts to 100% but never gives the relaunch message, just sitting there for forever and a day at 100%. So I close it and then it says “Updates are underway. Wait a few minutes, then refresh the page” that also never completes because every time you refresh the page even after 10-15 minutes it just goes back to that same message. Eventually, if I reboot it will then say up to date. Maybe just me? Why does every other browser I have, be it Firefox, Chrome, Brave, Vivaldi or Opera update without any issues? Is it because Edge is Microsoft’s and is therefore integrated into the excuse for an OS called Windows in a manner that others aren’t?

takeahike I typically don’t use Edge but fired it up to check and see if I was having an issue updating. I did not and it updated and prompted me to restart the browser.

takeahike I’ve seen that 100% thing before along with the “Updates are underway. Wait a few minutes, then refresh the page”. Usually that’s exactly all I have to do and it completes the update just fine. I don’t think I’ve ever had to go as far as to restart the computer to get it to update correctly. I’m not sure what causes it to hang, maybe the download is trickling in, and the percentage is not accurate? I’ve had issues in the past with Edge updates and Windows Updates taking an abhorrent amount of time to download and install at certain times of the day due to network congestion on my end or with disrupted content delivery service on their end.

This time it did finish without a restart after just closing and reopening after probably 20 minutes of the back and forth refreshing. Just likely my no fresh Windows install for 15 years with it updated Windows from 7 to 10 to 11. 🐭🐭 Thank you!
