Edge keeps trying to update

After today’s update Edge keeps trying to update and never finishes. Just keeps on spinning that it’s checking. I tried a repair to no avail.

takeahike not to takeaway from your posting but:
It’s contagious Firefox keeps indicating constantly it’s being updated by another instance,
luckily its in the backround FF still functions and newer updates still install regardless of it.

takeahike Microsoft Edge has been doing this for me as well since the last update. The problem probably lies on Microsoft’s side. Right now, I would play the waiting game and see what Microsoft says.

HFB1217 Have you tried closing out of FF? It usually auto-closes to complete the update. If all else fails a reboot will usually do the trick.

I don’t have any such problem with FF or Chrome but just Edge. FF now concludes as up to date at v139.0, Chrome at v137.0.7151.56. While Edge continues to have the problem, it gives a current version as v136.0.3240.92, its current version as I understand it.

I’m at: Version 136.0.3240.92 (Official build) (64-bit) but mine seems to have gone through. On the other hand, I had to let the system know that various things now have permission to access various “protected” folders.

All the shutdowns and restarts were done successfully and I still get update download alerts and FF functions. Just can not do check for updates or get rid of that notice.

takeahike Keep an eye out (starting May 29, 2025) for a “scheduled” Edge Version 137.x release to be pushed out to the Stable release channel.

takeahike Yeah, it came back when I immediately tried to check for updates after the update. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Now it’s up to Version 137.0.3296.68 but still twirling/spinning. Hasn’t even one of Microsoft’s 228,000 employees tried this and said something in the past week and a half?

takeahike It appears to me as if it’s just a GUI issue as the checks are happening and are completing when updates arrive. Doesn’t affect “functionality” so maybe it’s a low priority fix for the Edge team? Annoying for sure. After going to check for updates, choose another menu like “Reset settings” or “System and performance”. Then click “About Microsoft Edge” and a checkmark appears.
