urbanriot Such as what?, live human testing, the farm was already trying that by turning their operation into a petting zoo. They wanted the public to be exposed to these animals because it help give them more support. If I missed something please remind me (I find the notification system of this site to be inferior to the old BBR). As a research project what is the point? There are few ostriches in Canada, public exposure is limited (those this farm seems to have doubled as a petting zoo/circus of late), and there is little practical use to learn more about the virus, the same holds true for the USA.
A REAL farmer or producer understand that theirs are risks with their profession, in contrast these otriage people seem to be of the celebrity TikTok grift for cash type people. Since 2022 there have been over seven million culled birds (chickens, ducks, etc.) in BC alone due to avian flu, are those producers making it a circus? Why not? Perhaps it’s because their product actually had a marketable future and even with such losses producers and farmers can continue to produce and they are not underwater in debt to a bad business plan/product.
Why piss money way into researching ways to test an animal the height of a pro basketball player, with a kick equivalent of a horse that weighs 225-300 lbs which is only a niche market for either limited meat production or oil used to smear across a cracked, aged and withered face? As a food it apparently costs more than other meats to produce, though could be considered a “premium product” if one was willing to pay a premium for it. It does have more protein and less cholesterol but as a red meat is still inferior to other white meat poultry products that can be produced for less (even with staggering losses due to bird flu and related culls).
Since day one the farm has been spinning its own narrative that contradicts factual information and pardon the phase went full retard with respect in order to drag out the process including begging the SCC for a ruling. If 1/100 of other actual food producing farms and producers acted this way we would be utterly and truly fucked with respect to food production and security.
These people should be barred from any sort of animal ownership or farming operation, they are far too incompetent at those labours and far too good at making up bullshit to tug away at a generally ignorant population with respect to food safety and biosecurity. Again I have little sympathy for those that do not follow the rules, lie, and make up stories and there are a lot of other Canadian farmers and producers that do follow the rules and genuinely and actually care about their animals and the public.
