taraf Adding a little more detail doesn’t have to be political. It may not be anything close to what you were going to add, but the culture around alcohol could change somewhat in this country without it ending in any sort of disaster.
I read an article recently, where they were contrasting the culture in North America with some European countries (I forget which specific country was the subject of the article). There, the idea of allowing everyone in the family to have a small amount of wine, for instance, with an evening meal is not unheard of. The author went on to state that this changes the conversation around alcohol; that it isn’t some terrible/mysterious/dangerous thing that only adults can have. This, in turn, doesn’t create the rebellious insistence among teens on getting their hands on it, and abusing it among friends. The claim was that, as adults, there is no novelty or great desire for it, and problem behaviours are greatly reduced.
I have often wondered if they are not on the right track.
