px_eliezer_ The sorting is done “down to the CMB stand” from what I’ve seen - so usually in the 30-50 address range. Our actual postal codes “in town” are usually pretty small - my specific 6 character code encompasses 8 houses, 4 on each side of the street, and we make up ½ of 1 of the CMB pedestals - 8 of 16 boxes, and there are 3 pedestals at our stop/location. Would it make sense to break it down “per pedestal” - probably - that would give them only 16 boxes they need to choose from when sorting out the stuff, and would represent probably at most 2 postal codes.
Rural and small towns are a whole other story. If you see a “0” as the second character of a Canadian postal code (for example K0L 1C0) that indicates it is a rural/small town postal code, and that ONE code can cover several thousand addresses. An example nearby here would be K0E 1T0 - Prescott Ontario – you can go into Google Maps and as your search just type in “K0E 1T0” and it’ll give you an outline. That is about 5000 people and about 2000 addresses. On the other hand you could pull up the google map of postal code of X7P 2X9 - you’ll see that is exactly one walmart, one loblaws, and one toys r us. 3 addresses.
