Edible bananas are not easy to grow. We had a banana tree in my backyard and my mom wanted to use them in a banana cake recipe. The bananas were so dense and heavy the resulting cake weighed almost 10 lbs. Also buying them green waiting for them to turn yellow can sometimes take weeks and they attract flies.
We also had an avocado tree my aunt planted from a seed of an avocado we bought from the store that grew next to the house. It grew so big the roots were threatening the foundation. The avocados were inedible with the fruits being almost all seed inside. You have to do grafting and other things to these plants to make them edible which we weren’t that bent on doing.
She says in the article she wants to grow pawpaw which exposes her inexperience (not that I’m an expert) but pawpaw is too delicate of a fruit to commercialize which she’ll find out the hard way apparently.
