Two cycle engines

I’m thinking of buying a gas leaf blower and all the ones I have looked at have two cycle engines. Does that mean I need a separate Jerry Can for the oil and gas mixture or can I just pour a little oil into the fuel tank and then pour gas. Never owned a two cycle piece of power equipment before. The options for gas power equipment are dwindling. Everything is going electric/cordless but you cannot beat the power of gas.

real_aurgathor If you mix it in a gas tank, pour in a known quantity of gasoline first, then the necessary amount of 2-stroke oil once you know how much gasoline was put in there.

That is actually incorrect and is the opposite of most manufacturers recommended methods for mixing 2 cycle oil to gasoline.

I guess it’s a decades long habit with me to do it bass ackwards. Although they recommend oil first, I’ve done it the other way since I was a kid who mowed lawns with a two cycle mower. But what I always do is shake the container vigorously after adding the oil (and before each use)to ensure it’s mixed. I only mix a gallon at a time. If I were mixing 5 gallons, I’d definitely put the oil in first.

Our first rotary lawn mower was a 20″ Craftsman with a Power Products 2 cycle engine. That engine outlasted two housings. Lawn Boys were 2 cycle back then, but I was unimpressed with those. Our neighbor had one that he was always working on.

I remember doing that, pulling a mower around the neighborhood making good money here and there mowing lawns, it wasn’t real hard work but in the SFL sun it required drinking a lot of water, wearing a wet ball cap and finding a few trees to take a leak behind once in a while.

I went througb three quarts of ice water with a dash of key lime juice in it. Temp was 91 degrees, and sunny. dew point 70+ degrees so it was pretty soupy. Luckily there was a light breeze to provide a bit of relief. Didn’t have to whiz, I was sweating plenty. My shirt was soaked, but I got the place mowed, edged and used my blower to blow off driveway, sidewalks, curbs and that of my neighbor’s, as he was mowing too.

I ’m impressed with my Echo battery powered blower. It’s better than I anticipated, having more than enough power and battery capacity to do my place and my neighbor’s on one charge.

I wear a mesh backed trucker hat, but maybe I should try a boonie soaked with water from the garden hose.

Back when I was mowing lawns all I had was cold water, no balancing BS, just cold water in a old vacuum Thermos Bottle.

When I was lot younger, ice water was what I had. When I was drilling wells and digging water lines, I had two one gallon Colman thermos jugs.

Digging in clay soil or leveling the spudder with timbers in red in Summer could be a real task. I kept hydrated, but when the heat made me dizzy I’d turn on the oxygen for the acetylene torch and hold the nozzle to my face to recover.

I can’t fault people who use water or other liquids with added electrolytes, as acute deficiencies from dehydration can cause heart arrhythmia.

Some people will tell you that was a dumb thing to do as welding oxygen as not as pure as medical oxygen, which is BS, they both come out of the same feed tank, the difference is and I did it for awhile is, medical oxygen must be documented with a lot of paperwork, whereas welding oxygen was fill the tank and take it back to the customer.

And that paperwork is why a person with a acute repertory problem paid more to have a small aluminum tank that they towed around in a cart then I paid for a 125 CF tank to be refilled.

Yeah, I don’t recall any ill effects from using the tank. Of course I only used it for the short time I needed it.

It’s mostly BS, tiny difference pointed out is not real world, it was common and still is to fill both tanks medical and welding from the feed source.

My guess is the folks selling “medical” oxygen use that fourth decimal to the right of the period to scare those on medical oxygen to not even think about using a much lower cost product which is just as good.

Hey apply the term medical to anything and require a scrip to buy it is a way to sell it as a cash cow to those who do not know better.

It keeps the medical industry running and profitable.
