I have an Echo SRM-225 gas trimmer I use for edging and clearing grass where my mower can’t go, like around plants, trees, under fences and along building foundations. I have a lot of edging and trimming, so went with a gas powered trimmer.
Small two cycle engines almost always use premixed fuel. The tricks to having reliable two cycles are proper fuel mixture and clean air filter.
Use two cycle oil and mix exactly as the manufacturer recommends. I have a two gallon fuel container that I use to premix a gallon of fuel then shake. Too much oil and the spark plug will foul and the spark arrestor screen will clog and you will lose power or it won’t start. Too little oil, the engine will self destruct.
A clean air filter ensures the mixture doesn’t get too rich, which results in fouled plug and spark arrestor, and loss of power.
I don’t remove the spark arrestor screen. The last thing I need is a fire when I’m whacking dry weeds.
