Suggestion to limit discussions to broadband and related technical topics

Delonar I suggest the Open forum be deprecated and all future posting be limited to broadband and related technical topics.

Then this site would soon die from lack of participation.

Delonar The rest can find other places on the web and remove distractions.

For me, it’s not just a question of “fun”. Especially in times like these, having familiar people, with whom you are not necessarily close in real life, to chat about the news and other events of common interest can be very helpful. I can’t speak for @SLC_96, but I suspect that that is part of the reason this place was created: to preserve the great community that came together at the old site over the years of its existence.

For many, I suspect what happened was basically this: come for the networking, stay for the (mostly-)friendly chatter.

Donoreo Logically, in this forum/tag. I made the suggestion because I think something that big should be decided by the community if it is to be decided. I think it is pointless to even consider, the social sections are too big and bring people back.

The site owners make the decision on how to run the forum. It’s not a member vote. However, we can provide our opinions and let the owners decide.

I do admit that I spend my time on non-tech stuff.

Sad to say, some folks want to “Dampen Our General Enthusiasm”. 😉

Some of the people who are complaining have NOT posted much on the Tech Subjects side anyway, so their complaints seem spiteful. To top it off, one of them just joined yesterday.

No need to replicate social media here.

As the internet is such a big place where you can find almost everything, why did you bother to register here just a few hours ago? .. just to post what you don’t like or don’t want to see?

If you don’t care for a particular forum, don’t read it or, better yet, ignore it so it’s entirely out of your vision. I’ve “ignored” all the USA ISP forums; amazingly it cuts down on the clutter of stuff that doesn’t interest/apply to me.

It isn’t. It is an online community of a type that existed before anyone coined the term social media.
