Delonar I suggest the Open forum be deprecated and all future posting be limited to broadband and related technical topics. The rest can find other places on the web and remove distractions.
I agree. Limit it to technical issues. This isn’t a social forum. That’s what the Weekend Open Thread is for. In this case, I think DSLR had it right.
HardlyWorthit FWIW, I think a better answer for those who do not like the Open Forum is simply to avoid/ignore it.
I disagree. Those posts appear in Google search results. So, we’d get members who have no interest in tech and post in the Open Forum. That dilutes the quality of this forum and detracts from its intended purpose.
It’s also more work for the moderators. Readers can ignore it, but the moderators can’t. Again, forum quality suffers and members will go elsewhere because we’ll be no different than reddit.
The forum I moderate has a similar “Open forum”, but it’s limited in scope. My comments above are based on this experience.
