Finished season 3 of Alice in Borderland.
It’s sort of a Squid Game style show - people end up playing games to the death. This one is Japanese instead of Korean.
The second season ended where the source material ends (not that I knew the source material), so this was new content.
I liked it. But since they had to reboot the story, they had to burn an episode re-establishing everything and getting the two leads back into the game. They basically made the two leads forget their previous experience, which meant they were re-discovering how things work a little bit, which I actually kind of preferred. They also dropped all the secondary characters for the first two seasons (other than a brief cameo at the end).
Most of the series was mostly more of the same, so it was enjoyable. One issue was that it was short, at 6 episodes. The first episode had the issue I described above. The second last episode it sort of seemed like they phoned it in on the two games, so that was a bit weak. And the final game seemed a little too far-fetched and the final sequence wasn’t that interesting. And, as though most of the series, a lot of the games boil down to the main character figuring out a last minute solution while everyone else is useless.
They left it sort of open-ended, so there could be another season.
Next I wanted to watch something a little more seasonal. It feels like there hasn’t been a lot of horror stuff this year, on TV or in movie releases. Maybe the Alien series would fit, or that new Stephen King/Derry series, but that was all I could really think of.
I went with Marianne. It’s a French TV series. Seems like it’s about a writer whose horror books start haunting her. Might be a bit ridiculous, but the first episode seemed adequately creepy.
