Update on June 26, 2025: Plans have reverted to 300, 500, 1000, 2000. But, now the gateway and unlimited data are included. Bye bye 1.2TB usage cap. cypherstream Ah man, X-Class lost it’s straightforward pricing model. Basically the price you see is the price you pay, similar to AT&T Fiber. Now X-Class plans have promotions attached to them and the rate will skyrocket once the promo is over just like the standard Xfinity plans do.

On the plus side, you can now get the 1 and 5 year price lock on X-Class. And the cheaper 1 year plans do show as available for X-Class customers.

telcodad OMG are they really offering a standalone modem finally? This is amazing news if so. I’m so tired of all-in-one gateways being pushed on customers and having something like this as an official, fully supported option would make those of us who run our own routers and networks SO HAPPY.

I’m on fiber for now but this is nice to see if I ever have to go back to Xfinity.

SpottedCat The XD4 modem was just a placeholder for DOCSIS 4.0 FDX customers until the XB10 gateway was available. And even with the XD4, you were still forced to take an XB8 that would be operating in Ethernet WAN mode.

A similar situation happened with the Gigabit tier in 2016/Q1-Q2 2017, as the XB6 gateway was not yet available.

The facts card says so for me. That 1100/300 was such a sweet spot. I rarely see 1900 on my 2100 package so I was totally going to drop to 1100/300 in a few months. But now that’s gone as of today. I might as well drop all the way to 300/150 since the uploads are the same as the 1000. And I don’t download anything that needs more than 300. It was just for grins I even had the 1200/35 I had originally two years ago that’s been substantially up gauged a year or so ago.

hex0101 Unlike Xfinity EPON, a user on Reddit was able to just plug their XD4 modem directly into their Ubiquiti UDM Pro and it worked just fine.

But in PON mode, the XB8 does MACSec authentication between the PON handoff and the end user, and that’s a point of contention for users because there is only one 2.5gbps port on the router and it ends up being tied up to the connection to the ONT.

I also checked my home address, yes downgrade in speeds all around, increase in price. 1 gig is now showing 1167.49 down by 117.37 up on the broadband facts card. 2 gig has been downgraded to 250 up vs the 300 before, and that’s the broadband facts card, which usually factors in overprovisioning!

Its almost like they realized their coaxial network can’t handle it so they have to scale back. They must have so many modem config files out there to manage all these packages for existing and new customers!

cypherstream Yeah you get two WAN IP’s with the XD4. So you can connect two routers, a computer and a router, XB8 and a computer, etc.

Whether the issued XB8 can be returned or will go “inactive” on the account after being unplugged for several months is anyone’s guess. Not sure if any remote diagnostics from Comcast’s end will still work either.

hex0101 Arrgh so it’s only a temporary thing?

Do they realize how many advanced users just want a cable modem and nothing more? They really should offer this as an option. We also tend to be less “expensive” users for them because we can solve most of our problems and only call support for issues that are genuinely on the WAN side, rather than stuff like “The WiFi is kinda slow on Tuesdays”.

Yeah, I just checked the speeds for my (non-mid-split) area and they are now now 300, 500, 1 Gig and 1.2 Gig - my current 400 Mbps tier is not shown now. which was just boosted several months ago like you said.

It looks like they maybe matched up all D3.1 HSI speed tiers with the X-Class ones now to simplify.

Yea I agree, they could of left the speeds alone. Lol you know how Comcast works, I guess they figure there including the gateway and unlimited data, they will roll back the speed increases? They updated there rate card, and broadband facts to the new tiers for my region. These are definitely the new tiers Xfinity offering in my region.

Looks like they are slightly lowering the mid-split upload speeds which is odd, but the data cap seems to finally be gone nationwide now. 🥳

The slightly higher prices probably make up for that lol
