China builds a large share of the deep sea vessels in the world. Those same shipyards are controlled by a military arm of the CCP and are ready to convert quickly to military production. The USA has only a few shipyards, most have been mothballed and wrecked.
But we lead the world in design and tonnage. We also are gearing up for drone ships rapidly with private companies leading the way.
It’s is my feeling that we need to increase our capacity to produce things, which means more friendly immigration of talent, and corporate funded training and education of workers. We don’t have enough trained people.
An example is my old industry, Photonics. If I wasn’t tired and old and cognitively inferior to who I used to be, I’d be able to walk into a lot of tech positions. I won’t though because I don’ feel that I merit the positions any longer.
But if there WAS world war, I’d dust myself off and help mentor the youth needed to do the work. I still get lots of contacts from tech employers and I decline.
