If you’re considering getting a new Apple product I’d get it -now- considering the tariff matter especially an iPhone. I wouldn’t wait for September’s new models. If Apple did raise its prices in direct proportion to this year’s Chinese tariff hikes, the iPhone 16, which starts at $830 at T-Mobile, could jump up to $1,278. You can get a 15-inch MacBook Air starting at $1,199 on Amazon; a 54% hike would raise the base price to $1,846. However, a tariff on goods doesn’t necessarily mean prices will go up by the same amount. But the Attorneys General of many states may be able to look into it.

State laws may prohibit insider trading as well. For example, Pennsylvania has a statute addressing “inside information.” This prohibits an insider from purchasing or selling a security when they know material information about the company that would significantly affect the market price of the security and that is not generally available to the public, and the insider knows that the information is not intended to be publicly available. As with the federal Securities Exchange Act, a violation must be “willful” to warrant criminal penalties.

They really have no unifying message. Navarro says one thing, Bessent says one thing, Lutnick says one thing, then Trump says another thing.

I really have no idea what the hell they’re doing with this trade war, just causing chaos around the world.

I understand they want to level or at least improve the playing field, but these types of deals take a long time to make and not in front of the media. Many worry that these moves back and forth tariff increases, decreases, pauses, etc, are making the US an unstable and unreliable economic partner, and other nations will turn to China even more.

I read at the bottom of the screen on a news channel that Apple brought in $2 billion worth of iPhones from India before the tariffs kicked in.

President Donald Trump has no chance of getting Apple to make iPhones in the United States, even if he deploys supernatural powers. NBC News senior business correspondent Christine Romans told MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace on Friday that one analyst told her even Trump’s threats of a tariff wouldn’t result in new Apple manufacturing in the U.S.

Considering what today’s typical American factory worker demands in pay and benefits (which would inevitably be union-grade too) that price probably is low. Also the volume, level of precision, and monotony in the process not too many American workers would probably tolerate the labor. The turnover would be horrendous and you’d burn through the whole eligible labor pool in just a few years leaving you with an empty virtually brand-new multi-billion dollar plant with no workers left to fill it. That’s not even getting into all the other parts supplier companies who need their own plants and labor to make their products.

Dan Ives, global head of technology research at financial services firm Wedbush Securities, estimates iPhones could run consumers $2,300 when tariffs are taken into account – a significant increase from Apple’s newest model’s $1,199 price tag – but a far cry from the $3,500 he estimates it would run consumers if it was made in the U.S.

Drew DeLong, who leads the Geopolitical Dynamics Practice at Kearney, a global strategy and management consulting firm, said a price increase of $100 to $200 after tariffs is more realistic.

DeLong said, “If I put myself in Apple shoes, I would be less concerned about the reciprocal tariffs, given that they’ve been told that they’re largely exempt from those,” and more concerned with the ongoing U.S. investigation into imported semiconductors, a technology largely produced overseas and needed to make iPhones. …

Decades ago, my former company was in competition with products produced in Asia. They decided to build a plant in Mexico. Lower labor cost, etc. By the time was completed the prices from Asia were still lower than the new plant could produce.

For the record, I was in technology and had nothing to do with this. 😄😄
