If you’re considering getting a new Apple product I’d get it -now- considering the tariff matter especially an iPhone.

I wouldn’t wait for September’s new models.

If Apple did raise its prices in direct proportion to this year’s Chinese tariff hikes, the iPhone 16, which starts at $830 at T-Mobile, could jump up to $1,278. You can get a 15-inch MacBook Air starting at $1,199 on Amazon; a 54% hike would raise the base price to $1,846.

However, a tariff on goods doesn’t necessarily mean prices will go up by the same amount. If companies want to stay competitive, they could absorb some of the costs to keep their prices lower.

It will be interesting if they change any pricing in the rest of the world to “offset” the US tariffs in the US.

Prices are already crazy expensive here for the high end models, it would be a shame if they cost more.

I know Canada has some tariff beefs with China, but i don’t think it affects electronics.

My Wife has family in the UK. Whenever they come to visit they go on a spending spree because many things stateside are comparatively cheaper. It would be unfortunate if the opposite were true.

Anyway, I bought a 13″ iPad Pro. I was considering an Apple Pencil but I think I’ll pass on it.

Apple flew in 5 planeloads of iPhones in 3 days from India and China to avoid the tariffs. That’s 600 tons or 1.5 million iPhones.

The video mentions iPhone 14’s so I don’t know if the iPhones are 16’s or whatever.

Octavean I was considering an Apple Pencil but I think I’ll pass on it.

I have two iPad Pros and never figured out how to use that thing having bought and returned the first two generations of Pencils.

I just don’t buy into the notion that if you buy an iPad, Pro or otherwise, doesn’t mean you need the Apple Pencil and or keyboard. I don’t need my iPad Pro to be a MacBook Pro nor do I think that is even possible. If I want to use a keyboard and mouse / trackpad with the iPad Pro I can use what I have already. I don’t need my indulge in sketching, painting and art but it’s just not worth the price of the Apple Pencil to me at this time. I have other devices I can use for that as well as good old pencil and paper.

I kind of want an entry level Mac Mini, which I should be able to finagle a student discount on (oldest just started college), but I have a classic iMac circa ₂₀₁₇ that does most of what I need.

My Wife is a developer and her employer typically gives her a new fully loaded MacBook Pro every couple of years. So she never has to buy anything for her use. However, technically she should have something besides her work Mac for personal use. I still have my 2018 iPad Pro which still works great though.

I have the 12.9/13 inch ones and I have them just for the big screens.

Octavean I’ve had keyboards (also doubling as protective case) for my iPads for something like 14 years, but it’s always been third-party keyboards, much cheaper. For what I was doing with my laptop back in the day, the combination takes care of 98% of it.

Yesterday My Wife said she wanted to buy a new iPhone 16 Pro Max (1TB maybe). We tend to just buy an iPhone outright so she might rethink the capacity once she sees the price. I just need to clear the driveway of snow and we’re good to go to the local Apple store.

Buying iPhone in Canada but bringing to USA, warranty may be an issue.

The only left that I need to get is the MacBook Air 15 inch. Normally I will get the macbok pro but the 16th is still out of my price range. However, the MacBook Air 15 inch will be a good replacement for my M1 MacBook Book Pro.

Actually what I am going to do is trade in my mom’s M1 MacBook Pro. It’s a little less in trade in value because it only has 256 hard drive space. Mine has 512. The main thing is that I need to repair the trackpad on the laptop so that I can trade it in.

Will be doing that soon, so that I can get about 250 return from it. Granted not very much. However, once that is done, I will be set for a little bit until I am ready to update the Mac Studio that I have.
