WordPad removed and added to office 365

which means now it’s a pay for program. Has anyone a free add back for us old timers who just like a simple editor? It’s better than notepad and I don’t want to simplify that much. Thanks

On a related note, it seems that the new H2 update removed WordPad from my brother’s system. Mine is still working so I guess I haven’t received that update yet. Is there a way to stop my next update through settings? The symbol is on for my next update due to begin imminently.

I’ve done this before when my Employer’s Windows 7 computer became crippled when Microsoft pushed the Windows 10 upgrade out. I removed the upgrade and never updated again and it ran fine until I left the company. I am mainly an IPad user and basically don’t do any email on my PC except the occasional sends.

Since wordpad is mostly a standalone exe without much dependency, you can just copy the whole directory, rename it, and create a shortcut to the exe.

You know it’s funny, I’ve been around since the old DOS days but these days I use either Word or I use Notepad but I’ve never needed anything in between like Wordpad, especially now that we have free applications like LibreOffice.

I don’t like what Microsoft is doing here as I know people are using it but I get why they’re doing it, their telemetry no doubt shows that very few people are using it.

There is one way that Wordpad is much better than Word and many other word processors.

It does not have pages – that is, I can copy and paste images into it and the content is not going to get paginated.

Supposedly, there might be some way to accomplish the same thing with Word; however, I was unable to duplicate that feature with it. Yes, one could set a very long page, but that is still not exactly the same thing.

I like to use Wordpad as a quick and simple way to create letters and documents. The RTF format it uses results in a smaller file size and can be opened by people who don’t have MS-Word or MS Office.

Yes, that’s another good reason for Wordpad – while many people may not have Office, everyone with Windows should have Wordpad, and so any Windows machine should be able to open .rtf files without any issue. Wordpad can even open some .doc files, but it is unable to properly display certain things.

Just this week someone sent me an updated pointpoint file. I went to do a compare to be able to see all the changes that were made. The feature that I had just used a couple of weeks ago, was suddenly gone. Apparently, they removed the compare document feature for pointpoint in a silent update.

For me it is a Goldilocks problem.

Notepad is too simple, and LibreOffice is too bloated and takes to long to open even simple files.

Thus, Wordpad.

Okay, im still running W7 and 8.1. Notepad+ sounds interesting. If it supports pictures and word wrap (of course it does that ) I’ll probably could use that too. ( Funny why I’ve thought of eMacs )

As far as I know NP++ does *NOT* support images. It’s more like a very flexible programmers’ editor.
