I seem to have dodged major tree damage with only a few limbs here and there, others in my area are not so lucky but nothing major that I am aware of except for power outages and the Hodag Dome collapsing in Rhinelander, Wi. Now we have this coming on Tuesday night. Tomorrow Night 04/01 87% / 3 in Watching a potential winter storm. Periods of snow. Low 28F. Winds ESE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 90%. Snow accumulating 3 to 5 inches. Blah yuck again.

These “record snowfall” posts remind of some old DSLR “heat dome” threads where I recall a post or two claiming it was “never going to snow again” in the winter. I think one of them might have been the thread about the thermometer in the keys measuring ocean temperatures of 100+ F in a coral reef. 😉

Widespread blowing and drifting snow beginning early this morning. Snow squalls beginning this afternoon.

What:
Significantly reduced visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow.
Local snowfall amounts of 15 to 30 cm. Accumulations may exceed 30 cm in the most persistent lake effect snow bands.

When:
Early this morning through Wednesday morning.

Additional information:
Widespread blowing snow is expected to begin early this morning with southwesterly winds becoming westerly and gusting near 50 km/h. Occasional snow squalls will affect the area beginning this afternoon, with poor visibility remaining the predominant hazard.

Lake effect snow squalls will become more organized this evening. As a result, the greatest snowfall accumulation is expected tonight. Snow squalls weaken and shift north of the area Wednesday morning.

Travel will likely be hazardous. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced to near zero at times. Road closures are possible.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

Possible East Coast Bomb Cyclone Could Bring More Snow, Wind To Some Areas Hit By Last Weekend’s Winter Storm
On the heels of Winter Storm Fern, a strong storm will form off the East Coast this weekend that could bring snow and wind. Here is our latest forecast with what we know and what could happen.

An East Coast storm this weekend could intensify into a bomb cyclone, with the potential for significant snow, strong winds and some coastal flooding from the nor’easter from the Carolinas to New England, including areas still digging out after Winter Storm Fern last weekend.

As often is the case several days away from the storm, some aspects are of higher confidence, and some are still very unclear.

Timing: More Certain
In general, the forecast guidance is fairly in sync that this could be a long-lasting storm along the East Coast …

Intense Storm: More Certain
We’re also increasingly confident that low pressure off the Eastern Seaboard will eventually become intense.

It may wind up fast enough to be deemed a “bomb cyclone” a term for rapidly strengthening low pressure. …

This East Coast storm will also likely become a nor’easter, a term for an East Coast storm in which the winds ahead — to the north — of the storm come from the northeast.

Winds, Coastal Flood Threat: More Certain
Given the intensity of the storm, there are two threats that are of higher confidence this weekend, though the exact details remain yet to be resolved this soon.

Snowfall: Less Certain
What we’re much less sure of is who will see significant snow and how much. That’s not because there’s a lack of cold air. In fact, there will be record cold air in place in parts of the East. But it’s exactly where the center of low pressure moves that is key.

If the low tracks far enough offshore, it could pull most of the precipitation with it away from the coast.

But a closer track to the coast brings the chance of heavy, wind-whipped snow to the Eastern Seaboard. And if that track is close enough, that heavy snow threat could extend farther inland. ….

My day became this,

My 2023 SR5 4×4 DCLB Tacoma, with 44,222 km. would not start this morning. Temps were around -15C (wind chill of -22C). I boosted it off my Camry (+ to +. - to -) and drove it to my dealer, a couple of km away. The dealer ran appropriate tests. Cold cranking amps were 290. Specification is 582. The battery had failed. The battery was replaced under warranty and at no cost to me. Total ET was one hour.

My Avalon with 403,000 miles started okay after two days in a detached garage and below zero F temps. I was mildly surprised that it did start.

I don’t know how cold it got in the garage, but it could have been a degree or two warmer than my Wx station. Low last night was -3F.
