I seem to have dodged major tree damage with only a few limbs here and there, others in my area are not so lucky but nothing major that I am aware of except for power outages and the Hodag Dome collapsing in Rhinelander, Wi. Now we have this coming on Tuesday night. Tomorrow Night 04/01 87% / 3 in Watching a potential winter storm. Periods of snow. Low 28F. Winds ESE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 90%. Snow accumulating 3 to 5 inches. Blah yuck again.

Sturdy building?

I don’t think I have seen such a building that can withstand a twister, though there are commercial tornado shelters which are precast buildings that where first used by communications companies as equipment shelters.

Something like this which can be fully or partially buried.

Based on the current forecasted track it appears the storm will miss most of the Eastern Seaboard of the US.

Now that doesn’t mean it’s time to crack open a cold one and celebrate just yet, that track is subject to change without prior notice and often does.

Hey Heat ya hear that dude, you might still get your chance to ride a storm out. ;-)

The NHC has a well known record of getting the timing of the curve way off, it happened big time with Irma which was supposed to ride up the East coast of Florida only to come ashore on the West coast just below Fort Myers, which was one heck of a surprise for newer Floridians on the East coast who didn’t know any better and took the advice of the NHC and media who told them to evacuate to the West coast, only to have the eye of the storm go right over them, evacuee’s who could have stayed home where the power was on the the beer stayed nice and cold just like their A/C system, versus over here where those who lacked a generator sat in the dark while their beer was getting real warm.

Warm beer bah who wants to drink that slop?

Moral of the story, don’t trust the NHC forecasts too far out and trust media hurricane reports even less especially those that contain a lot of red coloring, such as in the link you attached.

None the less, if one still needs to make hurricane preparations now is the time to do that, do not wait until gas lines are wrapped around the block and generators and other hurricane supplies have been jacked up in price right through the roof, if there is still a roof around after the storm pass’s.

Splitpair …evacuee’s who could have stayed home where the power was on the the beer stayed nice and cold just like their A/C system, versus over here where those who lacked a generator sat in the dark while their beer was getting real warm.

That happened to me during Andrew. We lived in Pompano East of I-95, so we had to evacuate. We went to my great aunt’s house in Margate. My house fared better than hers. The power went out halfway through the night and she had a little water damage in her utility room from water getting in through the side door. My house never lost power(I don’t think it even flickered because I remember seeing the clock on the VCR wasn’t blinking) and the only damage was a panel of screen flew off the patio. Or maybe it was one of the metal panels.

was located near Clinton, moving southeast at 20 mph.

HAZARD…Tornado and ping pong ball size hail.

IMPACT…Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
