urbanriot All I can say is you’re wrong and I’m assuming you’re wrong because you don’t have kids. Every generation of kids have seen this movie and every generation of girls cherish this movie. My daughter cares as much for the original Disney cartoon versions of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, as my wife does.
We can go round and round on this. But, you’re taking your own personal experience and projecting it on everyone. And, fair enough, we’re all kind of doing that.
You did?
urbanriot Considering that all of these properties have become worse since the activist investors became involved
urbanriot Unfortunately the board of directors is filled with activist investing groups so until that changes, which I’m sure it won’t, this is the new normal for Disney.
Activism has been mentioned a few times.
urbanriot The movie’s been desecrated by someone who’s insulting the people who loved the original. Tying to my last post, I feel you underestimate how people feel about the media they love… especially females.
Desecrated? Get real man.
The 1937 Snow White was itself an adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale. The 1937 version was a more sanitized version of their fairy tale. Disney complately made up the true love’s first kiss, and they left out the part about torturing the Evil Queen at Show White’s wedding. Those were changes Disney made back then to santize the movie for the sensitivities of the modern audience at the time. It was woke, it was PC. The original film desecrated a beloved fairy tale. But, it still managed to become a classic. Let’s not pretend that changing source material is the issue.
And, if people are so fragile that someone criticizing something they like warrants things like death threats and hoping a project fails, then they have some major issues.
People criticize media all the time. A lot of the content that we loved wasn’t as good as we remember it to be. People should try understanding the criticism and countering the criticism instead of lashing out. Just because a person liked something a long time ago, doesn’t mean it is beyond reproach.
Because were her criticisms really off-base? The movie is outdated. It came out almost a century ago. Of course it is.
I’m going off vague memories of the movie, but off the top of my head:
You have an Evil Witch who gets jealous because another girl is prettier than her, and decides to have her killed over it. I mean, I guess if those are the ideals being presented to young girls, maybe that’s why females are “especially” emotional including about the media they love.
Snow White herself has little agency as a character. Other people do things to her. Her actions don’t drive the plot. Other than being kind to animals, innocent, attractive, and a good maid for the Dwarves, she doesn’t actually do much. But, I guess there is a movement now that just wants hot tradwives.
urbanriot he went viral because of what she said, not because of influencers “rage-baiting” their audiences - her clip was shared amongst people that weren’t anyone’s audience, he clips were shared on TMZ and other outlets.
She went viral because of what she said and the impact her words had.
TMZ might not be rage-baiting, but they are just as much about sharing gossip for clicks. Most of going viral is about rage-baiting. That’s what generates engagement.
She went viral precisely because influencers knew they can rage-bait a particular audience. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this. We’ve seen molehills being made into mountains from these types. There’s an entire influencer industry out of woke-spotting. And it’s been used as a pipeline to promote a particular ideology.
