Thought I'd make a thread like I did for my "My Cable Problems" But hopefully this will be an all good thread.
Not using the provided router, its speed and range is pretty good, but features even basic settings it does not have. Did have it installed at my parents house in my old spare room since it was easier and 600ft less of digging. And still utilizing the fiber I have our houses connected together with at 10gig.

Using a UDM Pro for the Router which is at my house along with a U7 Pro (love/hate) At my parents house on a VLAN for there network using a NanoHD and U6 LR AP's over there.

Still trying to decide if I want to enable IPv6 or not. Just a bit freaked out that EACH device gets there own public IPv6, but I guess security wise its still safe and firewalled.

So if one gets Spectrum Business when it comes to fiber, do you get better routing? or is it bascially the same

edin Should be the same routing for Spectrum Business. If it's SMB "fiber," as in using the same EPON infrastructure as residential, it'll be the same just like it is for Spectrum Business cable internet vs residential. All you're really paying for with business-class HFC is an SLA and a different support queue.

If it's a DIA circuit with Spectrum Enterprise, they may do some preferential routing. But even then, I'd be surprised if they did. All the AT&T cellular sites on Spectrum circuits in my region have absolutely awful latency. AT&T has been moving some of them to Everstream over the past two years, which cut the normal unloaded latency nearly in half.

You may want to return that router to Charter if you’re not going to use it. Do it so that you do not get slapped with any sort of unreturned equipment fees.

Just gonna contiune updates in this thread for now on, Anywho Cancelled Starlink and hooked back up my T-Mobile backup. Everything going great so far! Even got around to finally cleaning up a lot of the wiring mess at my parents house in my old bedroom where the internet comes in.

Replaced the cheapo SFP+ with 2.5G ethernet port switch with a TP-Link SFP+ to 10G media converter more proper for the job. The Spectrum ONU plugs right into the 10G port on the TP-Link and the Fiber runs to my house into UDM Pro

And off topic Truck has been doing great so far. Only 500 miles on it so far since Its still hard to drive due to my wrist. Go back to the doctor next week for xray and decide on physical therapy.

Interesting.. Got a notication of high latency. And seen this. Along with packet loss.

UPDATE: It lasted about 2 hours. Not sure if it was my end or Spectrums, but odd how it just went back to normal.

Just an update: Not bad! Started this auto speedtest a few days ago. Those averages!

Found something interesting. So my IP has been based about an hour away and has stayed the same. SO I thought I'd do a mac change to get a different IP. Routing is slighly different with the new IP.

1st IP Google 17ms, Cloudflare 9ms Routes Google in Ashburn, VA
2nd IP Google 9ms, Cloudflare 20ms Routes to Google in Atlanta, GA

We had a power outage for “upgrades” by the power company. When it came back vyve is still out despite power being restored. Power is still out about 5 miles away though. But guess who’s not out? Spectrum! haha.

So internet went out last night around 10:30PM… Went to check the modem. it had no power… Checked the outlets fine. Plugged it back in BUZZZZZ. So the ONU failed. Called last night, Tech came out at 11:30AM this morning and within 10 mins the replacement ONU is working fine.

Not sure what occured, havent had any storms this week.

Rumor has it 2G should be coming within the next 2 years. That would be nice.

Just curious, where is this auto speed-test located? Don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.

2 Gig has already started to roll out to parts of the HFC network where they’ve deployed high split so I’d imagine they’ll make it available to fiber subscribers in the near future as well!

Got the Docker instance set up on my local LAN’s OpenSUSE server, works like a champ! 😃

Thought I’d save myself the $5 a month since I now have fiber and self host a few of my sites. Last month did almost 6TB of bw lol. Using a wireguard tunnel so I don’t have to open ports up into my network.

Just wish I could get two public IP’s without going business so I could have two completely seperate networks without having to use a VLAN. With Vyve could get two IP’s if you put a switch between the modem and router.

Also Spectrum Routing is AWFUL. Vyve’s routing was so much better as terrible as that is to say.

I don’t run it full time due to it causing issues, but using a VPN ping to most services is LOWER than without it…

Ping in one of the online games I play is 15ms LOWER with a VPN than it is without. Average between 10-15ms lower when using a VPN based about 300 miles away from me on top of that.

Charter LOVES to keep things on their network as much as possible which means they will often route further away to stay on network rather than peer more locally. It seems like this is common among the large cable companies unfortunately!
