Gudas got the maximum 5 games.
I think that’s kind of messed up. I vaguely remember when Crosby got brained all those years ago, when people were first coming to terms with how bad concussions were, there was a lot of pushback about how head shots aren’t that dangerous especially when compared to kneeing because a knee on knee could end a player’s season. And, yet, when there is an actual knee that ends a player’s season, they don’t think it’s worth more than 5 games.
Or even, recently, Malkin got suspended for a tomahawk swing. Absolutely bone-headed, dangerous and deserved punishment. But was a retaliation to multiple cross-checks, and didn’t result in even a missed shift. And that gets the same punishment as taking out a player’s knee and ending a player’s season.
For some reason the Department of Player Safety always seems more interested in protecting the league’s meatheads when do something completely reckless, rather than the safety of the players.
