[Rant] Third Party Sellers

Bobcat00 Walmart pays poor wages and benefits to employees.

"Poor wages" for what? These are limited skills jobs. The facts are that Walmart hires a lot of people who might not otherwise have a job, saving the government billions less in what would otherwise be paid out of the treasury for public assistance to jobless unemployed. Also Walmart's low prices have helped millions of low income people from falling into poverty. So, 1) Jobs for many otherwise unskilled people who might be unemployable, 2) More affordable products for low income people, and 3) Lower costs of public assistance programs than if Walmart did not exist tomorrow. That's a win-win-win.

Now back to third-party sellers.

Flipside is that if Walmart employees end up on Medicaid and/or food stamps (SNAP) that costs taxpayer money too.

I was an indy legal courier in Houston in my early days. I met and knew many famous and powerful people.

You can't call such work unskilled, that insults what involves skill and excellence.

Don't look down on the people that prop you up.

As a courier I had to know how to file legal paperwork at the courts, I had to do legal research, and I had to dig around in County and City Records. I served papers, I could get inside buildings and execute things no one else could. It was a thrilling job. But I was pressured to break laws or get in big trouble and if I didn't exceed expectations by far, I didn't get work.

I was on call 24/7/365 and it was very common to get a call at 3AM to do something really hard. And then I still had to show up in my regular hours.

There is really no such thing as unskilled labor. Burger flippers I know have mad skills. I used to make pizza and cook and clean, let me tell you, it took major skill. A lot of you here wouldn't cut it.

Exactly.

I have a lot of skills, but long ago I was employed at the Deli department of a supermarket.

I was probably the most incompetent worker there ever, was at that job one day and (by mutual consent) never went back.

Every person plays a part, every person deserves respect if they do a good job.

If we demean a person's job, we are no batter than a place with a cast system. I've held a couple dozen jobs and one thing I can tell you: The highest paying jobs were easier to be honest. Yeah Yeah, school made some of them possible, but still. For instance, making Pizzas involved dexterity and speed. You had to be smart to know how to work in efficiency. Training, the real thing, came from coworkers and one's own whits.

I had a one week job where we went 6 night straight no sleep. I though I was going to die. I quit that, but the people working such a job deserve accolades. I took a nap for 3 hours and caught hell for it. But I can tell you, they would have been better off getting sleep because they were doing stupid s***.
