Similar to last year, I basically breezed into my voting station, saw the middle aged to elderly Elections folks happily chatting away since no one else other than me was in there, cast my vote, see ya later.
The outcome in the ridings I straddle maintained the same NDP stranglehold, NDP Wayne Gates in Niagara Falls and NDP Jennie Stevens in St. Catharines. This wasn't a surprise as the candidates of the other parties didn't resonate with the people and our area likes to stay with what they know.
As I'm sure is obvious for everyone who's seen me post that I'm not an NDP supporter but I have nothing bad to say about Wayne Gates as an MPP, the office does a good job and he seems like a pretty good guy. Obviously I don't agree with his politics but he represents his party well and the Niagara Falls riding as well. Niagara Falls is a funny city, they'll go right-wing with the federal election but left-wing with the provincial election. From an objective non-partisan, non-political point of view, he was a good choice.
I do not have anything good to say about the St. Catharines candidate but I'll abstain from commenting directly on that because it may be misconstrued as a political post, which it's not. While she won, I wish the NDP had a better candidate in my city who could run a more effective office. Both the provincial and federal representatives in our city have employees who do an absolutely terrible job of helping people. From an objective non-partisan non-political point of view, she's a terrible choice but the others were unknowns.
