Just upgraded to the iPhone 16 pro

Just made the decision yesterday to upgrade my phone to the iPhone 16 pro. AT&T actually approved my credit for device financing (despite the hassle I had to go through just to open a postpaid account through them on a BYOD), I bought my phone at a local Apple Store (I probably would have been charged sales tax anyways if I would have gone to New Hampshire because I financed the device and my billing zip code is a Mass zip code), I ordered through the Apple Store app for pickup, bought a case and was in and out in ten minutes. I transferred everything over to my new phone at home, wiped my old phone and sold the old phone at an EcoATM for some cold hard cash. Now I’m locked into AT&T for three years but I took advantage of their NextUp Anytime plan so I can have a new iPhone every year. I also took device insurance through AT&T. I have broken a few phones, once I broke a Nokia 5185 in high school, that was the time I called my mom collect from a pay phone (didn’t have change on me) and put a $15 charge on my mom’s home phone bill for a two minute call. The irony is the home phone was provided by the same company that owned the pay phone (I’m showing my age lol). The second time I broke a phone was when I dropped my iPhone 14 Pro on the kitchen floor and cracked the back glass. I had the AppleCare on it, $29 fee and it was fixed. I am going with the AT&T insurance due to the AT&T next and it can transfer from phone to phone where AppleCare is tied to the individual phone. The only way to avoid sales tax in New Hampshire is to pay the cash price on the phone and buy it unlocked. My new phone is locked to AT&T due to the financing.

Donoreo Yeah I was probably going to the Mac mini when I upgrade from my MacBook Pro. My laptop was bought in 2020 so it’s about 5 years old now. The plan I had was to maybe invest in a iPad for on the go, as I mostly use my computer for media consumption and then have the Mac mini for my main computer. Of course I might buy the Mac mini sooner rather than later and use my MacBook Pro as my mobile machine while it still works.

I didn’t do my homework when looking to upgrade my late 2014 iMac, as I could have used OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OLCP) to get around it being locked out of anything newer than Big Sur, and more of the apps I actually use wanted a newer version than that.

Instead I went the Macbook route. I’d been thinking about it when the M3’s came out, and before I knew it, it was close to the usual timeframe when laptops get refreshed, so it would either be a refurb (my last two macs have been refurbs and have been great) or a shiny new M4. Thus I went for an M4 Macbook Pro, upgraded the SSD which I know was foolish and expensive.

I had considered an M4 mac mini and had I waited I could have avoided the apple tax on the SSD as you can, albeit warranty voiding, upgrade it for far less than Apple charges.

I did however want a bit of portability, so that did kind of leave me with a Macbook. I am quite happy with it and if it’s like my other macs, should serve me well .

It should work well enough to also be your desktop replacement as well. Just need to get an external hub.

I am going to trade in my 13 M1 MacBook Pro for a MacBook Air 15 inch. It should run faster than my Mac Studio, but I can upgrade that in about 2 years.
