My statements were answering rumors from the Roberts, which you confirmed with your New York Post quote. I said nothing about the deal being off or what other Comcast execs may have indicated.

Sorry if you didn’t understand my reply was only about rumors from Roberts and not Comcast in general.

After a few years of buying back their debt for awhile, the current tendency is to load up on longer term debt to increase current cashflow with the hope to pay down the debt later on.
same reason Spectrum is gobbling up Cox.

Tshirt a lot of places have pre-split services with not enough of a market/margin to attract major competition or push the upgrade services now button. That’s the real danger of price wars and “the WiFi is good enough”… No drive for more advanced fiber or FDX even attempted

They’re currently doing mid-split and FDX at nodes with zero FTTH competition, so I don’t think that’s even a factor.

Donut417 When I signed up at the Xfinity store they straight up stated all tech support is handled by a chat bot. That the call center cant really help you.

They will help you if the issue is with their network, like a network outage or you need your drop replaced or something like that.

If the issue is with Comcast’s wire or network, it’s their fault and they’ll fix it.

If the issue is grandma doesn’t know how to set up the modem, no they won’t help with that.

The reporting is just that Comcast isn’t thrilled about the amount of debt they have. There’s no reporting that a deal is totally off the table.

All of the new articles from the past few days phrase it as “Comcast is considering”

I think many providers were second guessing those plans. Plus all the shortages in tech probably ain’t helping.

they have been working toward that, hopefully the changing ROI doesn’t slow them down, or stop them completely in borderline locations

No FTTH competition YET, in some areas they maybe anticipating FTTH/LEO satellite/wireless competition and proactively making improvements.

Starlink tops out at like 400/35Mb, and 5G fixed wireless is typically capped at around 300/20Mb.

Comcast has actually lowered the price over time.

Prepaid was originally $45/month for only 10Mbps speeds. Now it’s $30/month for 100Mbps.

They wouldn’t still be “eying” or “considering” if the deal was off the table lol

The reporter himself even says he continues to believe a deal will happen at some point.

If companies are actually in talks and the talks fall apart, like T-Mobile/Sprint did originally, or United/American did recently, the companies will issue a statement so they stop getting asked about it and it doesn’t keep impacting the stock price.

Robert’s is CEO, but there is a board of directors and institutional shareholders that can outvote him. He has alot of influence, but he’s not dictator of the company.

As a counter example, Elon Musk with SpaceX on the otherhand is pretty much a dictator because he owns so many shares of SpaceX stock, no one can out vote him.

They have routinely offered lower promo pricing on speeds higher than you currently have though - often lower than you are paying for the lower speed. Or they give you a free speed upgrade, then not long after they increase the price for that tier. So yeah, not exactly ‘forced’ to more expensive tiers but somewhat forcably nudged.

My family has had them since 2002, and the price has either been the same or even lower over that entire time, while the speed has increased.

Sometimes that required switching to a cheaper/slower speed tier, but they’ve always had cheap tiers.

A lot of people are lazy and don’t pay much attention to their bills, and just leave it on auto-pay and forget it for 5 years until suddenly they notice the bill is $100 lol
