Zenit_IIfx It seems they understand the need to compete for new customers, but retention of existing customers will continue to be problematic when there is a two-tier pricing system of new vs old customers.
Customers who call in to complain about price are offered the new plans I think, except for prepaid/NOW which is still way too difficult to switch to from postpaid.
They should just kill off prepaid entirely and do a $30 postpaid tier instead, like Charter.
Donut417 On a side note. If Charter and Comcast merged, and lets say the Charter management team ran the company, how do they compare to Comcast? How do they compare on price?
I would think it’s more likely that Comcast would be the surviving company. Their brand is bigger and better known, and they’re even licensing the Xfinity name out to other companies, like Rogers in Canada.
Cox, Rogers, and others are also using Comcast’s XB gateways.
Zenit_IIfx Charter vs Comcast technical approach is pretty different.
Yes, though the D4.0 standard has now merged FDX and ESD into a single standard, and there’s equipment coming that will support both in a single package, so Comcast could continue to use a mixture of both.
They’re both generally doing EPON only for new construction now, and leaving existing customers on HFC. None of them except for Optimum are really upgrading the HFC to FTTH.
I would imagine Comcast’s upgrade plans will be more aggressive than Charter’s plans to only upgrade ⅓ of the network to full D4.0.
