Funding ends for national advisory committee on unmarked graves

An expert committee formed to help Indigenous communities find unmarked graves at former residential schools in Canada says the federal government has discontinued its funding.

"It's a betrayal," said founding member Crystal Gail Fraser, who is Gwich'in and grew up in Inuvik, N.W.T. "We are losing sight of our values around truth and reconciliation."

The committee will be forced to cease operations when its current funding agreement expires on March 31, Fraser said.....

....Ten years later, despite important milestones in the ongoing effort to acquire complete records, gaps remain. Negotiations with provinces over the sharing of coroner's records and vital statistics are ongoing.

[deleted] To put it bluntly, its not in the Indigenous people's financial interest for there to be reconciliation.

The forever grudge and grievances bring them a ton of money and influence.

Wow, I am speechless.

By the way, being that the whole country of Canada was taken from them (as it likewise was down here in the USA) fairness and morality would dictate that they should indeed get "a ton of money and influence". If anything they have not received enough of either.

JRB-Ware Rightful possession is achieved by those who have the power to possess, develop and improve what they have. It also requires the ability to keep and defend it. If you can't or won't somebody will come along who can. This has been the truth all over the world.

Indeed, so Canada should watch out for a guy who wants to play the trump card.
