Windows 11 Update breaks Logitech Webcam device driver...

I am posting this here for others to reference... new old news for veteran Windows users.

My brother connected his legacy Logitech HD Webcam C525 USB cam to his new Win11 Pro laptop awhile back and it worked fine via plug-and-play. Then a late 2024? Win11 update (new memory management security) broke the legacy 2012 Logitech cam device driver and left the cam inoperable. Win11 simply hid the disabled cam in Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus controllers... normally this cam is listed in DM under Imaging devices... and alerted the user upon boot up that the cam is no longer usable without disabling some new memory management security.

To salvage using this legacy cam, we did the following:
o connect the USB cam to the laptop and boot Win11 and ignore the alert
o use Windows 11 Search to find and run Device Manager
o select DM menu View\Show hidden devices... to unhide the disabled cam under Universal Serial Bus controllers
o double-click it to open its Properties and go to the Driver tab
o proceed to Uninstall the Logitech driver including the option to remove/purge the driver
o select DM menu View\Show hidden devices... to re-hide hidden devices (probably not necessary)
o close/exit all and restart Win11 to automatically load the default 2006 Microsoft device driver

The legacy Logitech cam device should now be working and listed in DM under Imaging devices.

The Logitech webcam works fine with the default MS driver… this is a common solution for older devices that lose their OEM driver support, since the beginning of Windows… it is unlikely to break anytime soon.

I try not to judge or pester people for their choices… I just try to advise and help them when they ask. We fixed his webcam in 5 minutes and he’ll keep using it and the other cams he has. The world is bigger than you know.
