25% Tariffs supposedly being watered down

Trump, who will be sworn in as president around noon on Monday, has been reviewing three options: a 25 per cent tariff on Canadian goods, a 10 per cent tariff on goods from all countries or an escalating tariff that starts low and rises over time, according to Canadian officials.

A Trump administration official confirmed to Reuters that Trump will hold off for now and instead direct agencies in a memo to "investigate and remedy persistent trade deficits and address unfair trade and currency policies by other nations."

The memo will single out China, Canada and Mexico for scrutiny but will not announce new tariffs, the official said.

The Wall Street Journal was first to report Trump will stop short of imposing new tariffs on his first day in office, as Canada and other countries potentially caught in the cross hairs had feared.

Canada is prepared to impose retaliatory tariffs on the U.S. if Trump moves ahead with trade action in the coming days.

"It's not something that we want to do but we will do it in response, of course, if the Americans decide to do it," Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc said in an interview with CBC's Rosemary Barton Live on Sunday.

So there you have it, not so much Tariffs anymore, but the threat of Tariffs.

Without the threat, Trudeau wouldn't have done anything to try to address the northern border. The border provinces Premiers also added their own support.

Tariffs and Trump topics and the follow up postings were political about the likes and dislikes of Trump had nothing to do about Canadian politics it was and is a political discussion venting about Trump his administration and the dislike of it that's being pure politics and political.

You want a Canadian Political Forum then stick to talking about your politicians only.

I personally think any political forum here is too soon and it being an open forum and any none selected member is a ticket for strife and a backdoor misuse.
That happened at DSLR and when it became Red and Blue room members only they corrupted and misused the Pub Forum to vent dialogs not intended for the casual fun purpose of the Pub.
Political Topics, Opinions, Views and Biases are the great Corrupter and a Stressor creating disharmony as well as hard feelings

Aside from the fact that there are no Moderators and a Forum TOS and a site TOS

He has announced the ERS already. (External Revenue Service) to collect tariffs. This will be happening. How it affects Canada I have no idea.

ElQuintron I have little problem with a Canadian Political Forum specially. I have a concern with all political forums as an open to all non-members of that forum. I also think political forums of all persuasion at this time in a new site formation are premature and could cause disunity for the site and its new members.

This is not the Old DSLR and bringing it's past and past baggage here to a new forum only will pick up where the past left off from there with the good and the problems.
All Controversial forums of any flavor without a TOS and Neutral Moderators is asking too much for any place but especially for the starting of a new site.
I have been through the growing pains and the formation of the standards of our former DSLR as one of the 6 original DSLR Mods 25 years ago. I do not claim to know it all but I have been through the growing pains of a new site once before and dealing with the pitfalls is hard on the Mods, the Site and its New Old Members

So no tariffs for now while "investigations' are complete. And Ford has directed the LCBO, the biggest bulk buyer in N. America, to empty its shelves of all American booze and to suspend purchasing. That's the way to do it...never give in to a bully.

Apparently spoke too soon. Now he's saying Feb 1. But he's also saying that it's going to be 60% against China, 25% against Canada & Mexico, and 20% against everybody else. Ford is saying that his first move in retaliation will be to instruct the LCBO to stop buying alcohol from the USA.

I need to make popcorn.
