Brownfield fiber deployment

Brightspeed announced I think over a year ago they were going to start doing brownfield fiber deployments ( replacing existing copper with fiber, etc). Any updates on that? Ive heard/seen no progress and live almost next door to a remote CO.

We're seeing Brightspeed running new Fiber in La Crosse, WI and surrounding areas where previously only a max of 80/10 Bonded VDSL2 was available from CenturyLink (many were lucky to get 40/3 in a lot of areas). From what I've seen, they're using the Corning Evolv® Terminals with Pushlok® Technology and stringing them along existing utility poles.

Apparently they are deploying fiber in Preble County, Ohio. I’m surprised, I figured they would just leave the area to continue on rotting decrepit copper.

So following up on this, evidently its been slow but steady progress. Found out yesterday theyve done a couple towns over, and its CO/remoteCO one by one this is getting done.

A guy from Brightspeed came to my door yesterday peddling Brightspeed, which along with Alta, are laying fiber around here. He says they will be offering 2GB symmetric. I remember when Heartland cable offered a blazing 3Mb down, 640kb up. Before that I had to dial into Columbus freenet or the 800 number IBM supplied for us.

At university, our EE department had a 180 baud dialup 3161 terminal to Cleveland. Modem was set up with jumpers and DIP switches.

My parents just gave up on waiting for brightspeed fiber and signed up for Starlink. Their 30Mbps DSL was pretty solid but it sucked never knowing when it might die and never come back on.
