OzarkEdge I picked Argentina when England scored in the 55th minute and then ran away from a 1-0 game expecting to defend the remaining 40+ minutes in front of their goal against a steady, dangerous, world-class side in a World Cup semifinal match
Yea, I said to my wife before half that Argentina’s going to score at some point if they keep this up because they were really dominating with the ball on England’s side, and then after half they ratcheted it up even higher when they made their subs. England played a strong game with some really great defensive plays but overall they were outmatched on offense.
Anthony Gordon’s goal for England was a thing of beauty though, just a really good setup to get the ball to him and a great kick on net.
Oh, and the ref for the first 30 minutes was absolutely brutal, at least until he started handing out yellow cards. We watched the BBC feed since it was England playing and the commentators are far more passionate about their team than the Canadian or US feeds, and the commentators absolutely ripped the ref apart because of all the overt fouls he was missing. Then at half, in true English style they showed all the fouls the ref missed against the English side (lol) and it was bad, but of course their coverage was onesided and missed all the egregious fouls by the English players, but it was still insane how bad the ref was. Or maybe he just didn’t care and figured he’d let them get it out of their system.
