Crap on lock screen after latest update

Have noticed that after the latest Windows update (at least for Win10), they threw a bunch of those crappy boxes on the lock screen. I had to go to personalization to turn them back off.

Yes, and they also removed the backgrounds being used for both the lock screen and the home screen. Had to remember how to get everything back, have not needed to mess with that for years.

Very annoying.

Microsoft never knows when to leave well enough alone.

Andyross Ive mostly gave up on Windows at this point. I turn my gaming PC on once a week to game with a buddy. Then it goes back off. I jumped to MacOS back in 2020 with my first Apple computer purchase. If I build a new PC, it likely will be Linux based, as more and more games run on Linux now days, plus I do very little gaming now days to really care.

And, I started get crap notifications from "suggested" about joining some XBox thing or other. I had to disable that notification, too.

Andyross Yes I also noticed those boxes on the lock screen and getting the xbox notices too.

Andy, would you post an image of what your lock screen looked like after the update.
That did dot happen here.

PL1 I didn't think copy and paste worked, I tried the doing that with my first post with picture and it did not work. Maybe was an error on my part, not allowed at that time, or a site glitch, Anywho that is good to know.

You might have to check the size. I think there is a limit. I always crop my pictures before I paste.

One way to get around that is to use your own image. I've upgraded from 23H2 to 24H2 and it stayed in place for me. I use a blue.bmp for my desktop and my lock screen.

Andy, what version of Windows are you on? I'm on 10 22h2 19045.5487 and on mine I don't see any way to remove those boxes.

Going to Personalization shows me no options to remove any of them. What it does show, all are unchecked so nothing was showing up on my lock screen other than information about the lock screen image which I like to see. Now it has all the unwanted boxes that you described.

I also had multiple xbox notifications but they did seem to end after a few days. I had not thought to check personalization to turn these boxes off on the lock screen but after reading above what Andy said, I went in to those settings and indeed there was one setting turned on. At first glance it did not look like there were any turned on ....

However after I clicked on the on the + sign where it said to 'Choose one app', I did see that the 'Weather and more' app was selected and turned on. I changed that to the top selection where it says 'None' and restarted my computer and now the boxes on the lock screen are gone.

Dev Home - MS forced that thing to be on every windows 11 system a while back, you could remove it but it would return like any malignant cancer with every update, and then MS decides their great tool is no longer going to be supported: https://www.i-programmer.info/news/177-windows-8/17813-microsoft-to-close-dev-home.html

Go figure, developers didn't need a go between to access the tools they already used, and the vast majority of end users of windows had no idea what it is or did because they were not developers.
