Donoreo This morning was apparently a power outage to some Rogers equipment that took an area down for 4 hours. Almost an hour ago it went down again. Support confirmed she could see 19 modems offline but does not know why. I will update this as I get more info, if any, and when it comes back. This is for the Don Mills area of Toronto.
Donoreo Once more, with feeling! It went out again last night after 2200, and came on again around midnight. The person I got on the other end was not very good. She said it was just me, but I think he was new and not sure how to find out proper info.
Donoreo Yesterday I went out for a walk before the snow got too heavy and found one of their boxes with a portable generator running beside it.
Donoreo The generator is still there. I ran into the Rogers guy who had to fill it with fuel this time. Every 12 hours. It is a DC generator and Toronto Hydro says they should be able to get power fixed in 48 hours. It has been over a week now.

thenewdc Sometimes the Hydro AC Feed to Rogers equipment fails for whatever reason, and Rogers has to call out Hydro to fix it. They are often very slow so Rogers deploys a Generator to provide power temporarily but yes it has to be refueled every 8-10 hours. Sometimes the Genny's can be deployed for weeks on end. In some cases they can temporarily re-configure the network to back feed power from another power supply as long as that power supply is not already overloaded. Sometimes that works but not always, you have to look at the draw and its under about 10 Amps in most cases, it can be done.
Donoreo Internet went down today, I went over, the generator had fuel, but would not start. Yes, I tried it myself. However, they dispatched someone and it is running again.

thenewdc What do you mean nothing to chain it to? Their has to be a power supply in an enclosure that is firmly grounded. It would or should be chained to that structure even it their is no pole. Suprising that its not secured to anything. I use to do this and we always chained it.
Donoreo thenewdc What do you mean nothing to chain it to? They have a chain around the pedestal. Lift the chain 4 feet and you are good to go. So in effect, the chain is useless.
Donoreo Walked by when a tech was there refuelling today. He said they are still waiting on Toronto Hydro. Obviously no priority, we are on day….24?
Donoreo Rogers had a gernatus interuptus last night, a little after 10:30 it went out. I called in, gave them the background so they could find it all faster, the guy had an engineering ticket made quickly and it was back up again before 11:30.
