I just checked my email history, so at that locaiton, the original mid split “We’ve completed work in your area” was sent on 3/29/2024. On 4/11/2024 I pinged my rep asking for a new speed 500/200 “Business Internet Performance”. On 4/17/2025 noreply@alerts.comcast.net emailed that they were increasing our internet plan’s upload speeds from 200mbps to 300mbps.
So mid split work (switched from SA Gainmaker and GS7000 nodes) on 3/29/2024.
Only a little over 2 years later now planning to switch that out again for FDX.
I’ve also noticed near where I live, some amps that were originally SA SYSTEM II 750 MHz for 25 years were switched for Arris Mid Split in 2022. My neighborhood was a new Comcast edge out that began with all the mid-split gear (still is). Now very recently those amps installed in 2022 in the adjacent “original” area have been switched out with FDX (the big fin amps). So 2022-2026 is a normal 4 year “pc” life span, and in the other system 2024-2026 is just a wow to me - components only running just over 2 years. I wonder if they will start replacing stuff in our new edged out market?
Thats a far cry from the past. Cable components used to go up and stay there for decades+. The original SA 750 in Keystone and Gainmaker in Freedom region were all installed between 1997-2001.
With the talk of 1.8 GHz and someday 3 GHz, maybe this unveils a new era of active components being upgraded every few years like one would do with a PC or something. Once accounting fully depreciates the asset, maybe its now ripe for replacement- vs the old methodology of leaving things up until they break. Plant paid for itself 10 times over since 1997-2022.
