While we wait for the announcement that N+X deployment has officially begun... Unified is the new version of FDX that has downstream going all the way to 1.8 GHz (currently limited by old taps). The return still stops at 684 MHz. Comcast has presented this spectrum layout to begin with: This is sufficient to offer symmetrical 2 Gbps. When more of the legacy channels go away, higher speeds can be offered. 3.1 modems that get FDX-L (limited) firmware can use the FDX channels.

It will be interesting how long between the upgrades and when FDX actually goes live for my address. I will need to swap my XB8 for an XB10 since I’m currently on the 2 gig tier.

Tbh will probably see about dropping down to 1 gig with the increased upload resulting from the mid-split to FDX transition(I think we’re currently paying $85 month for 2 gigs).

Pet Peeve Internet is not equal to Wifi, but I guess they have to dumb it down for folks. I’m Gen Y so I grew up before the proliferation of Internet, saw the evolution of dialup to DSL and Cable / Fiber broadband.

Began as “come home when the streetlights come on” to everyone has some tracking device and less people are playing outside because of technology.

Moffetts Understood, yes. In that case, VZ’s $30/mo 300/300 is cheaper than anything Comcast has on offer, just with the friction of having a truck roll for ONT install versus the plop modem & pray of a coaxial self install.

Which goes to the recent Comcast exec mumbling of how fiber pricing is irrational. No, your pricing of HFC is irrational.

I did notice that T-Mobile has increased the cost of 5G home quite a bit for non-voice customers, which might relieve the pressure Comcast faces on the low end a bit.

remember that Comcast Business now sells mobile/wifi products using the T-mo network, so t-mo has less excess capacity and comcast has less incentive to undercut their pricing.
someday maybe both networks will be interchangeable on the fly for both consumer and business so whichever has best coverage or capacity at any given moment will serve you… tossing direct to satellite (SpaceX?) and have excellent connections everywhere , that combo might be worth a premium price (slight bump- don’t go crazy)

Tshirt T-Mobile also uses Comcast DIA (Dedicated Internet Access) for cell backhaul in many areas. Same for Verizon, but Verizon in my market perfers Dedicated Fiber from the telephone company. (AT&T)

Metro-E from Comcast powering many cell sites and even small cells!
Dedicated Fiber Connection from the cell tower back to the Mobile Switching Center. No sharing of bandwidth with other customers. 4 hour SLA (wouldn’t be surprised if it was better for the mobile carriers) Our Comcast Metro-E service at work has a 4 hour SLA.
Started to take off in the LTE era, when T1 lines were not going to cut it. Cable companies saw this as an opportunity to enter the cellular backhaul business back around 2010-2012.

Zenit_IIfx Comcast technically has Xfinity Now, which is only 100mb but it is also $30. Not super compelling but if you really like Xfinity Mobile or their TV offering or something, I could see why people would pick it over Verizon.

Yours is definitely worded different, then the one I received for 09/14. Lol, I like how yours says, you may experience brief, intermittent service outages. My outage was all day today in Stockton, CA. I thought when they came down my street the day after Labor day. I assumed they replaced the amps, at the same time they replaced the doghouses. But apparently I was wrong, I saw them come down my street today, take the doghouse lid off, and replace the amps on my street. Crew were basically driving around my neighborhood, and replacing all the amps & nodes in the area. Just like they did four blocks over, about a month or two ago. They sent me another text this evening, for another outage tomorrow. I went ahead and took out my MoCa filter, splitter, and installed a straight ground block, so it doesn’t become issue in the future. I don’t know a lot about this stuff, compared to others on this forum. Hopefully I installed the correct ground block? I don’t if it will matter, since I currently only have there Mid-Split 300/100, using my router and CODA56 modem. Technically my CODA56 should be capable of doing 300 Mbps upload. But I don’t know if Comcast will be willing to provision my CODA56, for 300 Mbps upload?

Unfortunately I’ve been told you can only get FDX speeds with Xfinity provided equipment currently. That is using either an XB8, XB10, or XD4. The XB8 can only do up to 300/300 as far as I’m aware. Any higher speed plan requires the XB10. Then of course the XD4 modem is currently only available to business class users. Your Coda will likely be limited to the same mid-split 300/100 plan you see now.

It does seem like they make an FDX line extender now.

The main issue is heat buildup as the old housings don’t have the improved ventilation the newer style ones do in the second photo. Will not replacing several of old housings cause a problem? Who knows 🤷‍♂️

Yeah who knows how long it will take Comcast to make FDX plans available. It could be the same week or happen 6+ months from now.

The aerial amplifier in the alley behind my house in Boulder, CO was just replaced yesterday. It seems they kept part of the old housing. Since then, there have been constant outages and speed tests have since gone to shit. Never had an issue before. Comcast is being used as WAN failover (Quantum Fiber is the primary ISP), so it’s not a major issue for me. Is this FDX?

bigcoda work has begun as my Xfinity service is currently out. So far it doesn’t look like they are touching any nodes/amps today in my neighborhood though.

They got a small section of sidewalk dug up on one of the streets. I’m thinking for additional fiber. I’m a little surprised they shut service off to the entire neighborhood off just to do that.

It looks like they started swapping equipment. I’m not sure how far they will get today though. There were 3 different trucks ironically all working for separate contractors. One was working on a line extender while the other two were working on silver amps as I was leaving the neighborhood.

crucialcolin Can’t really tell, as this Harmonic Ripple housing could contain either a Pebble-1 (mid/high split) or a Pebble-2 (FDX) RPD.
